Ibridoma - Norimberga 2.0

Amaran - A World Depraved

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Skyfire - Timeless Departure

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Eidolon - Hallowed Apparition

#FOR FANS OF: Power Thrash, Nevermore
What a dynamic piece! Blending in three genres all at once. The guitars were amazing and the vocals perfectly drawn out. I really liked this whole album. It's a shame that they're broken up! I cannot get enough of this release. The music itself is that what's captivating. And the energy of it all. What some great musicians for this album! The riffs are so elegant and well played out as were the solo guitar pieces. I just have nothing but good things to say about this release. What musicianship, talent and great heavy/power/thrash metal that goes along with this entire piece of work. The music itself isn't too fast tempos and it's more captivating that way!

Every riff is coordinated to mix amongst-side the vocals as if they were perfectly in unison with them. And given that this is a quite diverse sort of metal album, you have clean areas in small bits mixed with a majority of thick distorted guitar riffs. The solos are sublime in construction. I enjoyed them also. But mostly the guitar and vocals are what's appealed to me the most. Everyone did a great job too in construction of musicianship. Again, it's too bad about their split not long after this album was released. And if it weren't for a friend of mine, I would've never encountered this band/project.

Production sound was adequate with making this an above average release. Quite into the genius in musicianship. I couldn't be happier with the outcome of this release and just wish that they would've stayed together. But I'm sure it was a mutual consent to end their effort in the making of albums within this scope. Their guitarist Glen Drover is in many different bands-past and present. What a diverse musical career he's had. He's been a part of many different successful bands - Megadeth, Queensryche, et al. So that's probably the reason why the band has taken a split mutually concerned in the way of metal.

I heard this first on Spotify and then decided to get a copy in the mail via in the form of a CD. It's just such a great album that didn't get enough press in my opinion. These guys know how the hell to make some great songs. And what a great band! I was wondering what the score would be and I thought "next to perfect." They really did some great work throughout the album. All the songs were strong! I didn't experience any lack thereof in songs each one was not greater or lesser than in any respect. They tore it up musically here covering three different genres stomping all of them! Check them out! (Death8699)

Catalano - Into The Darkness

#FOR FANS OF: Heavy/Power
Very moving heavy/power metal in an origin of Chicago. The vibe is what moves me in this whole album. It doesn't matter which song, the music itself is truly a gem. Fighting over the rights to the name "Catalano" with another Australian made band, well THIS is Catalano! Heavy/power metal that is fill with illustrious riffs echoing out of the speakers in joyful metal that's truly impressionistic. Some of the history here is well Pat mainly worked with their ex-vocalist on these songs while his brother wrote some. It's a thing in metal where things happen and band members just seem to walk away for whatever reason.

Songs are 3-4-5 minutes in length with a classic heavy metal vibe throughout with Pat's compositions showing true metal influences. The vocals reminds me to that of Helloween just not as high end as that. A really good vocalist, ABSOLUTELY! Shiny leads too that coincide with the rhythms. They poured out their hearts in this recording with a solid tone and balls to the rhythms. It was mainly Pat with his ex-vocalist working on this and they did some phenomenal things with sounds. It was a good combination for the recording everyone seemed to contribute. But this is Pat's band killing it!

Maybe a little of this truly is never enough (to paraphrase their track) because to me, a lot isn't even enough! Of course it's coming from a long-time metalhead (me). The vocals fit perfectly with the songs and the production is solid! Pat put a lot into this recording. I'm surprised that Catalano isn't that well known to the metal arena especially in roots lying in Chicago and that darn Australian band putting them in the mud especially on streaming sources such as Spotify and YouTube. These guys do a great job with their metal. Very catchy riffs, illicit leads and vocals that are those which are GRAND!

Overall, this band doesn't do anything surprising to heavy metal except blow it up in their own way with great music! I love the clean tones as well, especially on "Sirens" and "Runnin With The Wind." Some epic tracks! I think that they have their own sound with influences. Definitely a great project. They're now working with a female vocalist hopefully on new material. I think every song on here is KING. They didn't miss anything here and I hope that they'll get more press for their releases. They deserve it! This band just rocks and has a unique sound overall worth your while to listen to! (Death8699)

Lutharo - Unleash The Beast

#FOR FANS OF: Heavy/Thrash
This EP has been monumental in Lutharo's discography. It's just entirely amazing in composition. Clocking in at about 25 minutes in length and 5 songs (technically 4 plus the intro), I really enjoyed this fresh heavy/thrash metal vibe with utterly spellbinding vocals. The music and vocals draws you in entirely, somewhat resembling Alissa White-Gluz but with more variety! The riffs are like magic too, utterly captivating! This album isn't immensely fast, but it's just captivating! The riffs are balls out intense and the lead guitars are QUALITY. They're just somewhat new into the metal world, but with this they've made a monument!

I enjoyed this whole EP and I would venture to say there's nothing wrong with the songs at all. The vocals make the music more rectified. Really great songs on here and a Canadian based band, another has struck the metal world. That's a good thing! I'd have to make note to say that they're a little metalcore-ish as well. That's not listed in the type/genre but it does have those elements. The music and intensity are way there throughout this entire release. I'm totally immersed in this EP, there's really nothing I'd discount or take away in the release. Everything is just perfect. The leads could be a little better, but still I think everything is pretty solid!

Production quality was top notch! Everything is worthy of utmost praise and glory they're drowning in! I would have to say that upon hearing this i had no idea it would be so great in composition. Definitely a great contribution to the metal world and for the band getting themselves started in an upmost luxurious manner. They don't fail at all on here everything is up to par and fits together totally. I'm surprised that they've not gotten more press that 1 review for this. I'm about in the ranks of the current score on this site, 1% higher in rating because I only took off points for a few minor things, nothing major.

I found this on Spotify and have been hooked! These guys really know how to hit home in their genre(s), they did a great job with this. The vocals and the music is what grabbed me the most! I felt that the sound quality was top notch as well! The vocals were way grand! So yes, this hits home on my end or final evaluation. If you just like metal itself aside from all of the different styles, I think you'll like this. It's so immensely diverse and catchy, they were at the pivotal best. I'm not sure if Amazon carries this or if it's entirely digital, but definitely check it out and low behold the BLACK SCORPION! (Death8699)

Children of Bodom - Follow The Reaper

#FOR FANS OF: Power Death
What a powerful performance on all fronts! Long live Alexi Laiho! Just getting to reviewing this now, and wow, what a series of positive melodic death/power metal! The music on here is epic, I like it a little bit more than 'Hate Crew Deathroll', well...maybe. I think the compositions on here are sublime. They really did the listener good with this recording! The riffs, synthesizers, vocals, drums and production quality is more than adequate! The tear your speakers apart! Alexi was great on here rhythm and lead guitars. I think that this is the most thought out COB release ever. They tended to go downhill after this.

The music a divine music is what's on here. They did everything right on this album. Everything sounds original and to the point riff-writing wise. I think that it's pretty technical as well. Fast, ripping, and relentless. Such a great album. All was right when they wrote this release. I think the music is some of most original melodic death metal they've put forth! I dig the power metal element as well. They mix the instruments quite well and they are just relentless in terms of the energy! It's rapid fire music here, and Alexi's vocals are fantastic! Everything on here hit home with me nothing on here that I'd change.

The sound quality was top notch. Everyone on here sounded great and like I said I'd change nothing. It's a divine masterpiece. They knew exactly what to do with the songwriting. I don't know why they fell after this. Maybe the aggregate of fans then they got a little bit lazy perhaps. With the 'Hate Crew Deathroll' and 'Halo of Blood' I think were good solid albums but not to the equation of excellence that this held forth. They really did hit a pinnacle release here just wish they didn't regress all up until Alexi's death (RIP). It's rumored that he had a bad alcohol problem hence the nickname "Wildchild."

So to sum it up, 'Follow the Reaper' is probably the best COB in their entire discography. They hit home on every track. The aggression, hatred and vibe is totally sick. They definitely worked hard on this and what an output! From every aspect, they conquered. They didn't do anything wrong on here, simply said: NO MISTAKES. It's amazing the talent that the band had all up until the end. It's a sad reality that there will be no more COB. All we have now is to appreciate the memories by playing this classic and 'Hate Crew Deathroll'. I'm biased with that one though. Own this! (Death8699)

Nicta - Rage and Fury Fed Us

BACK IN TIME:
(Francesco Scarci)

Epica - Omega

#FOR FANS OF: Symph Metal
This is by far my favorite Epica release from start to finish. 70+ minutes of beautifully orchestrated symphonic metal. Simone sounds intriguing like a beautiful songbird that she is. The music is wholly original and riffs just kick ass. The keys brighten the music up from being dark to celestial if that! The changes throughout songs makes it ever-most endearing. They totally killed it on here! The tempos are slow pretty much and the lead guitar is angry and fierce. That is, when it shows up in it's presence allure. The backup vocals are also intriguing. There is nothing on here that I would say for the band to change.

Simone is at her best on here and she just sounds utterly beautify. I love it! The hoarse vocals are on here too, but not too much. They balance it out quite well. Definitely everyone on here that did the songwriting knew that this was to be their most epic release ever! I'm glad too that the album is long. It shows that they put a lot of work into making this utterly spellbinding. Simone sounds like her best ever that she has performed ever. A lot of the songs have brief introductions before they really set in. The guitars are heavy but well rounded. They have what it takes on here to make a beautiful release!

I'm applauded that they didn't get higher ratings I mean mine is the highest rating I could possibly give. But I'm backing it up with what I've heard from the album making an educated review of their music on here. The production quality and mixing was just extravagant. So you don't have to worry about making a mistake sound-wise for this one. Sure the symphonic stuff can be irritating at times but they didn't overload you with that symphonic stuff. They balanced it out entirely. And the hoarse vocals as well. Simone is at her best here and I think everything that's on here musically is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.

I listened to this on Spotify before I thought about buying the album. I ordered the CD pretty much right away because I was in awe to what I heard. So yes, it is a part of me now. Some people have doused this release as something that's just somewhat mediocre and boring. I thought that it was the best release of theirs that I ever heard. I'd say that 'The Quantum Enigma', 'The Holographic Priciple' and 'The Solace System' were all really good, but this one is definitely I think their strong ever that I've heard to date. Long live Epica in their wonderful metal music and let them live it on with this one as their ultimate gem! (Death8699)

Helestios - Your Pain Tastes Good

Ben fatto ragazzi! (Francesco Scarci)

Sabaton - The Great War

#FOR FANS OF: Power Metal, Falconer
I was impressed from the beginning in first hearing this band and their power metal onslaught in 'The Great War'. I am not doubtful at all to give this a perfect score. The vocals and aura to the band makes this album invigorating. They really know how to hit home with some great and original power metal. The guitars were awesome and the synthesizers make the album that much of a "happier" sound. They really lift up the spirits here and the leads are with precision, carefully orchestrated. I would venture to say that this one is a top release in the year it was released (2019).

This album has a tinge of Falconer-like sounds to them. And the lead guitars are simply amazing! This is an all-out great power metal addition to the metal community. The vocals and synthesizers are a little overpowering but it doesn't make this any lesser in rating it. I thought that this would be not what I expected, but I was surprised in a good way. It's one release to turn on if you don't want to hear something brutal, it's the actual opposite of that. They are like I say "happy" metal they are invigorating. I like the fact that they do change things up on here it's not always in your face vocals and synthesizers.

I felt that the sound quality was really good! Between the music, the vocals and the production, it's a release that just nails it from start to finish! They don't disappoint. It might be under 40 minutes, but that doesn't take away from being a great release. Some of our MONUMENTS are only 30 minutes. So just be aware of this and hold on tight to it because it's mind blowing. The intensity and the overall sound quality is superior. These guys know how to tear it up in the lead department, too! The whole album has the listener keying into it and finding it amazing! It truly IS a MONUMENT.

If you're still reluctant about purchasing this release check it out on YouTube or Spotify. Then you'll get a feel for the band. If power metal isn't your "thing", then hold off. But if you want something invigorating and upbeat, you'll like this. It gave me pause at first then I slowly got into it and enjoy it from start to finish. It's just a lot of positive vibes here and the musicianship is phenomenal, I felt that the vocals were invigorating, absolutely! And the sound of this album is so positive. It really is something that can lift up your spirit if you're feeling distraught. Get it today or at least check it out! (Death8699)

Command the Machyne - S/t

(MetalJ)

Falconer - From A Dying Ember

#FOR FANS OF: Power/Folk
I didn't think too much of this album until I heard it enough to make a formal opinion about it. It's quality! So sad to hear of their departure from the music community upon release of their album. They really had a great career that spanned about 30 years. I worked with Stefan on the guitar tab "Upon The Grave of Guilt" which made it official. The fact that he took the time to correct it was very kind on his part. And it goes to show you what a pleasant band to write about. This one is another one that goes into the about an above average release. As I say, it took a while to listen to until I felt the vibe on this.

The vocals are all clean by Mathias which isn't any different than any Falconer release. The riffs are invigorating and mindful. I like the melodies and leads. All 11 songs are killer. I liked every one of them and I thought that they were well worked out by the band. The vocals go well with the music. The guitars are way melodic. And there were some clean points mixed with piano (brief). I don't think there's a Falconer release that I dislike. They all are monuments. And Stefan kills it every time on lead. His performance is nothing but incredible. It's a shame that they wrapped it up for good with this release.

The production quality is sublime. It does the music justice. And the mixing, too. I'd say the highlights of the album are the tracks that show the utmost diversity in musicianship. The guitars are pure Stefan-related. He really does a powerful job with the writing here. Nothing but perfection! I think that these guys are and always will be at the top of their game. This one I like as much as 'Black Moon Rising' and 'Among Beggars and Thieves'. The music (I think) is the most noteworthy on this one rather than previous releases. It just simply shreds all of it. I think that they really left the scene on a positive note.

Check this out on YouTube because it might not be on Spotify. There's nothing but perfection on here. The whole album just simply rips. When you hear track 1 you'll probably say "oh yeah, I hear what he's talking about". I think that the legacy that Falconer left is for the next generation of folk metal to become of another. There will never be another Falconer, they are in the archives now with the rest of retired bands that left the scene on a good note and with another monument. It's sad that this is a reality, but they've chosen other pursuits in life to challenge them, thank you Falconer, thank you. (Death8699)

Resistance - Lies in Black

BACK IN TIME:
(Francesco Scarci)

The Aerium - Song for the Dead King

BACK IN TIME:
Hyperia - Insanitorium

#PER CHI AMA: Death/Thrash, Testament, Over Kill
(Francesco Scarci)

Ironflame – Blood Red Victory

#FOR FANS OF: Heavy/Power
So the mighty Ironflame have returned with their third album in less than three years; with their sophomore effort being released just sixteen months after the debut. Andrew D’Cagna has this incredible ability to consistently write songs that give me those same feelings that I got the first time I heard Halford, Dio or Dickinson. As he writes and records everything, there is a true consistency to the music without being the same album over and over again. While the sophomore was much more ambitious in the song writing. 'Blood Red Victory' sees the direction of the songs more in line with the debut. This time he also seems more focused; and the result is nothing short of amazing.

One thing that I noticed immediately was that the solos were no longer being supplied by Wheeling, West Virginia shredder extraordinaire Jim Dofka. His solos on the sophomore were beyond brilliant. Instead, this time D’Cagna decided to go with the two shredders that are part of his current touring band; Jesse Scott and Quinn Lukas, the latter being with D’Cagna in the Pittsburgh veteran melodic metallers Icarus Witch. That was a really smart move. Both guitarists are brilliant live so it was great to see their actual input into the songs. Each solo on this album is brilliantly thought out and take each song to the next level.

The songs themselves are just metal as fuck. The riffs, the melodies, the solos, and those unforgettable vocals. Andrew D’Cagna’s vocals are just brilliant and I truly believe he set the bar for the modern true metal vocalist. The opener, “Gates of Evermore” has an opening riff that sets the tone for the song. It kind of reminds me of 'Glory to the Brave' era HammerFall. The melodies are catchy and the choruses are infectious. These are heavy metal anthems that can stand rightly along side any of the classics. I dare you to listen to “Honor Bound” and not get that feeling like you are hearing metal again, for the first time. “Blood Red Cross!” That “OHHHH” during the bridge is fucking brilliant! I could listen to that song over and over again. The song builds to this incredible solo three quarter the way in….I got goose bumps!

I don’t know how this guy keeps pumping out quality heavy metal; all along with playing bass and writing songs with stoner rock band Brimstone Coven as well as being full time vocalist for Icarus Witch. “Graves of Thunder” has that melodic metal feel of an Icarus Witch song while still having that Ironflame sound. “Grace and Valor” take it right back to epic power metal with some incredible dual harmony riffs driving the verse. Brilliant! “Night Queen” is the longest song on the album and reminds me of “Shadow Queen” off the debut…could even be a sequel. Nonetheless, none of that take away from the sheer brilliance of the execution. The song sucks you in with the melodies and hooks. The perfect album closer.

Classic heavy metal is making a comeback and there are some really great bands and some incredible metal coming from this resurgence. Ironflame have set the bar, quite high I might add for this movement. Three consistently incredible true metal albums loaded with everything that made me obsessed with metal to this day. Keep ’em coming Andrew!! (The Elitist Metalhead)

Prime Creation - Tears of Rage

(Emanuele 'Norum' Marchesoni)

Stormwarrior – Norsemen

#FOR FANS OF: Heavy/Power
When I first heard “Iron Prayers” back on 2002, I was blown away by Stormwarrior’s unapologetic resemblance to Walls of Jericho era Helloween. They even went as far as to have Kai Hansen produce and guest on their debut album. I was instantly a fan. The follow up to their debut was absolute perfection and one of my all time favorite albums. The band has changed over the years but one thing that has not changed, their approach to classic speed metal. It’s been almost six years since their last release, Thunder and Steele, so the time was right for the return of Stormwarrior. With the release of their sixth full length opus, Norsemen, they are back with a vengeance. It’s amazing how this band can stay true to their form without sounding dated or stale.

Keeping with Stormwarrior tradition, they begin with “To The Shores Where We Belong,” an intro that only builds you up to the burst of speed and energy you would expect from these Teutonic masters. “Norsemen (We Are)” bursts from your speakers with the fury of a marauding viking horde! A speedy epic number that sets the mood for what will be fifty minutes of head banging , horns up speed metal. Starting with speed and fury the song is classic Stormwarrior; including their signature melodic, anthemic choruses that you will find yourself signing along to by the time it rolls around for the second time. “Storms of the North” keeps it going with one of their most catchy choruses yet. The riffs are epic and the solos are godly.

“Freeborn” changed the pace a bit having that galloping tempo, crunching riffs, and melodic dual leads. Being one of the teasers released before the album, it’s just metal as fuck from beginning to end. They have this atmosphere that make any song they create sound epic. “Odin’s Fire,” “Sword Dane,” and “Blade on Blade” are classic Stormwarrior. These songs could have been on Northern Rage. “Shield Wall” starts off with some dual lead melodies over some epic keyboard effects then bursts into some great dual lead work for the intro that leads into the verse. It actually comes off as quite catchy. What this song does is prepare us for the epic masterpiece that is “Sword of Valhalla.” Clocking in at just over eleven minutes, this is an absolute beast of a song. This is everything heavy metal should be in one song; speed, epic riffs, melodic epic choruses, and godly soloing.

Once again, Stormwarrior proves to the world that staying true to your formula can pay off. This album is pure Stormwarrior from beginning to end. Their signature sound is is pure metal; nothing more, nothing less. I’ve never heard an album by this band that I did not like. Twenty-one years after their formation and seventeen years since the release of their blistering debut, Stormwarrior stands out as one of the best and most consistent bands in metal. Prove me wrong….I dare you!! (

Trail of Tears - Existentia

BACK IN TIME:
(Francesco Scarci)
