Municipal Waste - Hazardous Mutation

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash/Crossover
Probably the strongest Municipal Waste release that I've heard! It clocks in in under 30 minutes but the music/vocals captivates! I like the guitar the most and well the vocals were anything but annoying. This is a definitely good crossover/thrash band that's put together a great career! I think they did the metal community justice after all these years. Their albums may be short, but they hell of pack a punch, that's for sure. I'm not big on the lyrical concepts, I support their music only. Not what they write about. This one again the songs are short but catchy as all hell! I liked every song on here!

The riffs are way cool and the intensity is high. Definitely a band that you either love or hate though. I say that because it seems to be the case with listeners. I'm new to crossover and I'm liking it a lot! It's a change from death metal, I just need a break from that. The whole band contributed equally on here. They definitely contribute to metal's unique twist here. Everything seemed to fit into place with this release. I like a lot of their albums though. But yeah, this one hits home for sure. They just put it out there to the listener and a lot of people are saying the same thing about this one: it rocks!

The sound quality was good, maybe top notch! Everything on here is mixed really well! I'm glad they had that happen for them where everything seemed to come together on here. I hope that they were definitely proud of this release. They sure as hell amped the intensity! It's a half an hour of ear grueling noise-core! The vocals compliment the music well. I'd say this was likeable the first time around! Really good job on here, the music is the most convincing. And the vocals seemed to keep up that pace here, ABSOLUTELY. They did this band justice with making an everlasting effort to their genres.

I ordered the CD to this album. It was released in 2005 but hey I'm still old school when it comes to LP's. I like to have the physical copy of the album. I'm downsizing my collection, but the classics like this one will stay! If you're streaming, this one is available. Actually, quite a few of theirs is online. I checked out some before I ran into this one. I'm looking at the review scores and have to agree that this one deserves a perfect score wholeheartedly. They put together some great songs. I just wish that the album lasted longer. Oh well, I value the whole 30 minutes of this one! Check it! (Death8699)

Midnight - Let There Be Witchery

#FOR FANS OF: Black/Speed Metal
A truly likable band that has two genres mixed into one. They put on a good live show as well! I like the fact that they're a metal band that sounds just as they do without the likes of other bands. Unique riffs and songwriting. The vocals suit them well with the music too! I hope that they continue making newer and newer albums. This past tour with Mayhem they didn't steal the show but put on a great performance. I liked their entire set. They really have a lot of energy to them and the riff-writing for this studio release was top-notch. They know how to write some pretty great songs that captures like no other.

The riffs are the best part of the album! They totally light up the speakers and they've shown that they can continuously write music that is catchy and unique. The album is only about 34 minutes but the whole way through they kill it!

Some really wicked unique riffs on the guitar front. These guys just dominate and on purpose. They've demonstrated that as a few members that are in the band that they can be ultra creative. The leads are just somewhat of a drawback. But still, they dominate!

Production quality is also good. A really well rounded album all the way through! I'm glad that I picked this up and saw them live. I'm not familiar with their older stuff but it seems as though they got some similar ratings. I'm not surprised that this black/speed metal band has done well even with the lack of people that they have at their live shows. I'm happy that the album emulated their live show. The music is what stole the show for me. They totally know how to create good guitar riffs throughout. It's not likely that you'll hear a band that has these two different genres into one. Absolutely phenomenal! (Death8699)

Moshquito - World's End

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

E siamo solo a metà strada. (Francesco Scarci)

Dead Head - Dream Deceiver

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash/Death
I actually like this album more than their newer material! The music is better, so is the production and vocals. Quite an array of thrash galore and not so much death metal here, they seem to blend those two genres together. The vocals are a little different from what I'm used to, but the music is top notch! A lot of memorable riffs here and quite a sum of variety, too! Everything fit together on this release. Nothing seems to really lag, the energy is high up there. All 10 tracks (but the last release under Hammerheart Records, has 17!) are good, there weren't any that I though were lesser than others. They really seemed to put their creative juices to work on this one.

One thing that I won't get into are the lyrical concepts. Everything else I'm pretty open to on here. This is a second album I've heard from this band and I'm really liking what I'm hearing! The guitar riffs I've paid close attention to and I've concluded it's probably their best in existence! I took the liberty to find this on CD because I really want to hear it in my stereo, not nauseating headphones. They don't have a mountain full of followers nor press, so helping this band is the best way to show they mean business in the metal realm. I've done my part and if you're not convinced, it's your issue.

This is somewhat of an old-style production type of recording, but everything seemed to be mixed well! The guitars and vocals I paid most attention to. I've found that there's not an overabundance of lead guitar going around here, just enough. That's something I found fault in their more recent recordings. The rhythms were straightforward and somewhat technical. But they sure as hell made catchy riffs! They were pretty original in their songwriting. I didn't find much flaws in their playing, they were immaculate! The voice went well with the music! I've found the music to be the most likable aspect to this release.

As I've said, show some support to this band and buy the CD! It's worth it, to those who still have CD players! Spotify and YouTube both feature this album. I would take an hour out of your time and take a good listen to this release! It's worth your time. I wouldn't be urging you to do it if I didn't believe it to be true! Thrash galore and the riffs are hell of a lot of creative in this genre of metal! I'd like for this band to stay in existence for a while longer even if it just amounts to a few good releases. But like I said, I've found all the albums I've heard from this band to be palatable! Check them out!

2 Ton Predator - Boogie

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Brick Bath - I Won’t Live the Lie

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine
Inoltre, 'I Won’t Live the Lie' suona più immediato di 'The Great Southern Trendkill', e scusate se è poco. I contenuti testuali, invece, lasciano alquanto a desiderare.

O.D.O. - Blinded By Hate

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

(Francesco Scarci)

HolyArrow - My Honor is my Loyalty

(Francesco Scarci)

Vektor - Black Future

#FOR FANS OF: Prog Thrash
This album is incredible. The amount of work it took to put it together, riffs and all was probably a while! David DiSanto is probably one of the top progressive thrash metal guitarists known. His work is quite technical! The rhythms and leads are outstanding. I'm glad the band reformed, though with some different musicians. That is fine as long as they can keep up with this guy. Vektor is a band with an acquired taste to them, they're not for everybody. Even though they're not for everybody doesn't mean that metalheads should disrespect their work. This album quite resoundingly is just an ass-kicker. So fast in many parts, yet there are parts where tempos slow down.

I liked all the songs on here and felt that every single one of them was put heart and soul into. The main things I like about it ARE the tempo changes and vocals. David's high-end screams shriek but most of the time they're tolerable. The abilities here with the songwriting capabilities are just astounding. I don't care what anyone says, Vektor is in a league of their own. Far surpasses a lot of bands nowadays. These guys are truly respectable individuals in terms of music, maybe not morals. But that's not what concerns me here. All I care about is the band's music, not lifestyle habits or way of life. As long as they can hack it here, that is what matters.

I've been able to find this album in a local record store actually, it only took 10 years to show up at a record store. I thought being Vektor it's gotta be good. And as I came to believe that it was a good choice! The songs on here are somewhat long, some the tracks are over 10 minutes in length. But they never get boring. They're more interesting the more you listen to them. Being a former guitarist, I notice things about the riffs and that the tremolo picking is superior, the leads spellbinding! These guys are far above being amateurs. They're way more advanced, the music just slays. I wouldn't say any song on here is "dull." Quite the contrary.

Since I bought the physical CD, doesn't mean that it is required. As long as you get to hear this is what matters. But showing that you support the band in any way, that is what counts. These guys I hope will stick around for a long while. It's been 10+ years so far (with gaps), so I hope they will endure a long career. I always say to support the band by buying their album, but now people mostly revert to digitally downloading albums. Some of my friends don't even have a CD player! But stay old school and buy the CD if you still have a device that plays it! Vektor is sticking around, and what a debut 'Black Future' is and what they all have become! (Death8699)

Garota - Czarne Wizje

(Francesco Scarci)

Slayer - Divine Intervention

#FOR FANS OF: Death/Thrash
This is a release that I like with Bostaph was on drums. The guitar riffs are good on here, especially on "Killing Fields." The leads were a little lacking on Kerry King's side but he's always been in Hanneman's (RIP) shadow. The songwriting quality on here was top notch! Not as good as 'Seasons in the Abyss' though. A different production quality on here. It's actually better sounding than 'Seasons...' just the guitar riffs weren't as good on here. But they are pretty catchy. The title-track "Divine Intervention" had a killer opening riff that just took everything away. Mind you, the whole song is incredible.

I just don't like Slayer without Lombardo or guitar without Hanneman (anymore). But on here they did really well! I still think that this is deserving of anything higher. Araya's vocals were a little annoying on here but not to an nth degree.

The 90's Slayer I wasn't much in favor with or the newer modern stuff. I'm for the older material such as 'Show No Mercy', 'Reign In Blood', 'South of Heaven' and 'Seasons in the Abyss'. It just seemed to be the "real" Slayer that the 90's stuff and modern didn't cut it.

As I say, the production quality was decent on here. Rick Rubin on 'Seasons...' did a great job on that release. But here the instruments were done in well despite the music not being as well as the 80's and 1990 Slayer. The leads were good and the rhythms were tight. The music fits with the vocals. Just they will never reach the status of how they were in the past. It's too bad they're gone for good but without Hanneman and Lombardo it just isn't Slayer to me! The music on here is catchy though. Probably the best Slayer of the 90's aside from 'Seasons...'. They are good on here in the lead department and the riffs are pretty OK.

This album is less than 40 minutes but it's still good musically. The aggression fact isn't as prominent as the 80's Slayer and up until the end they turned out to be horrible on 'World Tainted Blood' and 'Repentess'. Those two were flops. This one isn't nearly as bad as those. At least on here they have some catchy songs. Aside from the title-track and "Killing Fields", I would recommend checking out "Sex. Murder. Art" and "213." Slayer retired too soon, they would've had more albums to release with Bostaph and Gary Holt. As Kerry King's anger about retiring too early, he misses the live shows. I don't blame him, but he's formed another band I think with an album on its way.

From the time that they formed in the early 80's, Slayer was a pivotal force in the thrash metal arena that basically never changed their style of music. Bands like Necrophobic got their name from a 'Reign In Blood' song. The whole community died when Hanneman passed on and (to me) Lombardo out. Though he's with Testament now. Old Slayer is gone, long live Slayer forever (RIP). (Death8699)

Destroyer 666 - Wildfire

http://www.secret-face.com/
  #FOR FANS OF: Black/Thrash
The music on here is what takes it away. And the vocals as well. Similar sound quality to this release. It's got a slight reverb/echo to it. It makes the album sound more grim and dark. I enjoyed this whole album so I got the CD of it. I figure the sound quality will be better than the digital music. Which it is! All the songs are killer. If I were to pick a few tracks, I'd say check out "Live and Burn", "Hymn to Dionysus" and "Die You Fucking Pig!" All of the songs are good though, mostly up-tempo with a few tracks that were somewhat slow, but still catchy as all hell. The music is what took it away on here (like I previously said).

The guitars are a mixture of tremolo picking with that echo that I talked about. But it seems as though some songs are fast, yet they take a break from that speed especially on "Tamam Shud." That one is a little slower than the rest.

They've done well in their discography, being consistent the whole way though their musical career. I felt that this one is a little stronger than their latest 'Never Surrender'. I like both releases just this one seems a little tighter.

The production quality was good just the tracks have that echo I talked about which makes the release darker and more fierce. All the songs are catchy and the leads were pretty strong as well! The rhythms are what did it for me and the vocals. I think that they do really well with their musical efforts. They are aggressive and underground just the way that they want to be (I presume). I'm not much for the lyrical concepts but the music just takes it all away for me. The guitars are furious and fast and they're catchy as all hell. These guys know how to make phenomenal black/thrash metal!

Hellfuck - Diabolic Slaughter

(Francesco Scarci)

Brutal Faith - In the Mouth of Suffering

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Old Man's Child - In Defiance of Existence

#FOR FANS OF: Black/Thrash
Another good one in the making recognized 20 years later but Galder has not expired as founder of this one-man-band. This was a good follow-up to 'Revelation 666...'. I think that the guitars are solid making solid sounds beget admirable compositions. Galder doesn't seem to let-up in making good releases. All of the instruments and vocals go well alongside one another. Some tinge of acoustic work here too, but very briefly. This album is mostly hardcore melodic black metal. Galder's vocals don't shift much as they are pretty much screaming voice throughout the album. Not much variation to them.

I especially like how the music goes well with the synthesizers. I'm not one that is a favorite of these things co-existing but Galder makes it work. I enjoyed this album the whole way through. All the songs are good. Everything seemed to work on a whole!

I would think it's safe to say that all Old Man's Child releases are solid. But this is a key release for the band. It shows not only maturity, but the progression in the melodic black metal arena and how Galder is a pivotal person in the metal community. Not only has he brought his own unique style to this genre but creativity and undying metal. It's good that he's staying active here in this arena of the genre providing key sounds to his uncompromising aggression. This album features Cradle of Filth's drummer Nicholas Barker. The whole album again turns out good making it an "75" in my book for a rating!

In concluding, don't expect anything but the finest melodic black metal in 2003. This guy is the force behind extreme music. He's done a great job in both his band and Dimmu as well. Let's hope he'll continue to make great music in the up and coming years! (Death8699)

ACOD - Cryptic Curse

#PER CHI AMA: Symph. Death/Black
Damnation Gallery - Enter the Fog

#FOR FANS OF: Death/Thrash/Horror
Quite a unique release from these guys first time ever hearing them and what their gig is like. They have some darn good riffs and the vocals are an acquired taste. But good! I'm surprised that they haven't been really reviewed before. I'm glad that they found me because they're looking for press. I believe that this one ('Enter the Fog') is their strongest release to date. They're totally dark musically and the sound quality is sub-par but I like the music on here. And do dig the vocals for what they're worth on this recording. It's moderate metal, moderate in the sense of heaviness. But the album is 51 minutes and I really think this band has a bright future.

They have some variations to their riffs some songs really slow or clean as a song called "Erased." What a gem that one is! But for the most part, this album is somewhat brutal musically. Just they change it up but the riffs are pretty slow distortion except for that one (outro track). The vocals were actually pretty clean. Reminds me a little bit of "Planet Caravan" by Pantera only female vocals.

These guys have a whole helluv a lot to offer the metal community. I wasn't convinced the first few songs I heard but this one grew on me. Not a great deal of lead guitar work and that's OK. I think their riffs are catchy and somewhat melodic. They knew how they wanted this to turn out and did a great deal to make it underground. These guys have a good career ahead of them. And again, I'm glad they reached out to me! I only have nothing but good things to say about this release. Loved the guitars and vocals. But I must warn you, it make take time to grow on you as it did to me. I appreciated this much more on repeated listens to.

Some good songs that I've found to be besides the one I mentioned above are "Angomarcia", "Never Say Goodbye" and "Fog." Interesting band and they're going to make one helluv a career in the metal genre! (Death8699)

Destroyer 666 - Never Surrender

#FOR FANS OF: Black/Thrash
This is actually my introduction to the band, so as you can see I'm way behind in their discography. This one perked my ears up. And I'm in huge contrast to the average scores giving this one a "80" rating. I thought that it was very interesting of a release. They flourished their black/thrash metal throughout this recording. The riffs were fresh, the production strong and the vocals are way better than tolerable. These guys know how to get it done musically. The music itself really impressed me. And the voice to the album just went so well with the guitars and drums. There was a little echo effect with the voice which made it darker as an album.

I thought all the songs were well constructed. Definitely a band that knows what their doing. Leads were crystal clean and the shred was totally there. The mixing/recording had the music sounding a little darker than what they may have wanted but overall a great record.

I realize that not everyone has access to Spotify or YouTube to test this one out. It's everything and more of a recording that's solid. I enjoyed this whole album entirely. The music just took over and I've been happy to own this now, not just digital streaming.

These guys have a huge discography behind them. And it's good that they've come out with new music and in no way lacks ingenuity. I like this whole album and what it's done for me as a fan. It makes me want to own more of their LP's. I will, but I just regret that I didn't get into them sooner. I kind of overlooked them hearing very little of their music then I broke through and picked up 'Never Surrender' on CD. More than happy with it. They flourish in the genres coming together as one. It's a little tricky putting black/thrash together and making it a solid release. But they're experienced so they know what they're doing.

"Mirror's Edge" and "Rather Death" are some songs that are highlights of the album. Not to mention the title-track. Look into this! (Death8699)
