Graveyard - Lights Out

Testament - The Formation of Damnation

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash Metal
This is a good one! The 80's Testament had low quality recordings so the production quality wasn't there. Now with the 21st century version of the band we don't have that. This one is pretty solid and tight. There are a few members here that came and go which would be bassist Greg Christian whom the band had a falling out with and Paul Bostaph (ex-Forbidden, ex-Slayer) on drums here. I thought that the songs were awesome and sound overall is definitely top notch. The music and vocals stand out the most. I like how they redid some of the old tracks ("Souls of Black", "Practice What You Preach", etc.). Sound quality is just so much better!

Peterson has been one long-time member that seems to be the driving force of rhythm guitar though now he's executing some leads as well. I wish he'd stay rhythm and let Skolnick write all the solos. That's not happening unfortunately. But Peterson writes awesome rhythms as shown on the re-recording of the first two albums on their 'First Strike Still Deadly' release in 2001. Testament has a multitude of LP's that are solid, new or old. They're still hacking it these Bay Area thrashers. I always liked this band, they don't seem to disappoint! With this LP, their approach was solid rhythms and forceful vocals. Everything seemed to go well on here!

I liked all of the songs on here and this is a solid recording. Not sure why it'd get a bad rap in ratings, very good quality music here. I liked the rhythm guitars the most and a few of Skolnick's leads. Chuck Billy always delivers to that's not an issue. I tell you, there aren't many things wrong with this recording. That is, in my humble opinion. I was missing this CD in my collection so I made sure to pick it up. I just figured that since it was Testament it'd do no real wrong. Though, like I said they had some album flops but not many. As long as they had most of the founding members then it's solid.

Well, this is a 2008 recording that's streaming, but I just bought the CD. If you want to hear what it sounds like before buying it it's on Spotify or YouTube. The main members (Alex, Eric, Chuck & Greg) were featured exclusively on here. So you bet it's going to be solid. The guitars galore here and Chuck with his unique vocals makes it out of sight! I guess I felt that it needed a strong rating since the music had me sucked in here. They really were underrated on here. I think a "80" is appropriate because the songwriting was super spot on everything seemed to come together on this one! Take a listen! (Death8699)

Kreator - Hate Über Alles

#FOR FANS OF: Death/Thrash
What a solid follow-up from 'Gods of Violence'. That one just grew on me. But this one is solid in every way! Mille sounds great on vocals. And the riffs are sick. Fresh and well thought out! The overall quality is not only the music but the sound quality as well! Kreator's career stretches over 40 years and long-time members (Mille & Ventor) are still hacking it. As long as Mille stays on rhythm, cannot go wrong! Sami does a good job in the lead department but not as good as Frank Blackfire (the old lead shredder). This one has a mountain of aggression and technical thrash riffs. They just simply tore it apart here.

I don't necessarily like the lyrics though I never did like their concepts. But the music and overall sound kicked ass. Wish I could see them once again but I'm not sure if that's going to happen. A friend said they're Saxon sounding on this one, though I've never really explored that band. I've just been into Kreator since the late 80's. I'm one that's always hell stuck on 'Coma of Souls'. But they have a lot of good albums to explore such as 'Phantom Antichrist', 'Enemy of God' and 'Violent Revolution' (not in order by release date). Their previous had some good songs as well though overall this one is the key solid release!

I think the compositions themselves are what makes this one so admirable. They really do have it here! They're in their 50's and like fellow thrashers Destruction are still putting out good quality music. There was a brief time when Kreator took a dive with 'Renewal'. I thought that that was the last of them after I heard that one. I was wrong and since they've been thrash which is their roots! I think they've hit a wide array of fans once again showing that they will not compromise! The riffs on here were the highlights the melodies and rhythms simply kicked major ass from all aspects!

Well, I cheated and downloaded the album in skepticism after hearing a few music videos then I heard the whole album! So I made sure to get this on CD! I'm glad I got their physical copy and am no longer skeptical of this one. The music is really strong here. Maybe because they took around 5 years of getting it put together after 'Gods of Violence'. This one is way tighter and more melodic in my humble opinion. Kreator is as strong as ever and this album just shows us that. I know there will never be another 'Coma of Souls', but this one is pretty close! Long live Kreator! (Death8699)

Overkill - The Grinding Wheel

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash Metal
This one has some "fire" here in its intensity! About 65 minutes of KING thrash. I'm not a huge Overkill fan, I guess Bobby "Blitz" kind of irritates me in excess. However, I do favor more modern Overkill especially this one! I like the "groove" on this definitely some cool riffs! Bobby isn't super annoying on here I thought that the music went well with the voice. Killer production, too! Some of the ratings on this, not many, but some are fully putrid! 40%?! No way, this album is a radical "75%" to me. The whole album kicks some serious ass best to evaluate the whole release not just a few songs, if that!

I'm just really into the guitar riffs the most and I thought that there's wicked innovation on that front! These guys know how to make some killer licks and the overall music just slays. I think some of their other releases are pretty strong too like 'White Devil Armory' and 'The Winds of War' also I though they were hits! This one is about the same amount of praise that I'm giving it. There's diversity to it but mostly the guitars were definitely great spectacles. The leads were strong as well. But overall, the rhythms fit just right! As the album progresses, Bobby is less irritating especially keeping an open mind.

The production as I've mentioned is good, but not the best that Overkill's had. It's not like the somewhat "raw" sound of their classic 'The Years of Decay'. These guys have remained consistent over the years. And the guitars are just way fantastic. I cannot stress that enough. Just catchy songs and upbeat tempos. They did well too with the backup vocals as well! King guitars and the beats fit well with the guitars. These songs to me are classics. I'm surprised I didn't write about them a while back. It was just sitting on my CD rack.

In case you're new to Overkill, the three albums here are definitely monuments. You can opt to the older material, but the more recent I find suitable to my pallet. This album is a good one to start with. It's long, catchy and palatable. The guitars are wicked catchy! And the production quality is solid. Killer leads too! This album is streaming so yeah, you don't have to buy it unless you like or collect CD's like me! Worth a listen to, this album deserves praise! I cannot see how they (critics) loathe this one. It's so catchy and admirable. One of my favorites from the band absolutely! Check it out! (Death8699)

Graveyard - Hisingen Blues

Guardando meglio troverete sparsi in giro elementi proto-doom (l'intro di "No Good, Mr. Holden"), amplificazioni lento-southern ("Uncomfortably Numb"), stratificazioni hammond-psych ("Ungrateful are the Dead", dove sennò?), fischietti epic-western morriconiani ("Longing").

Molto strano. (Alberto Calorosi)

Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness

FOR FANS OF: Black Metal
I hear no flaws on this entire album. They were sticking with the blackened metal in the black metal genre. The main this is the thrash-filled guitars with the dark atmosphere. Just taking note of this and it being 20 years old I'm that behind! Though I'm not far behind in the Immortal discography except for this one. Sucks that their status now is "disputed" though I did like 'Northern Chaos Gods'. Maybe their status will change but Abbath is gone doing his own work in his project. Curious to hear what his follow-up from 'Outstrider' will be. The groundwork was laid with Immortal now he's done with this band.

All the tracks were good that crunch tone on the guitars is so Immortal-esque. That was probably date back to 'Blizzard Beasts'. But this production was quite good and everyone did a great job with this one. Totally "them" and this is when Iscariah was on bass. He didn't last too long with the band but he did well on the bass duties. Tempos by Abbath were varied but nevertheless solid! He's who made Immortal who they are Demonaz on 'Northern Chaos Gods' made a good effort though. I still think that 'At the Heart of Winter' is one of their tops despite some flaws in the guitars and production. The riffs were great!

On here, since the production was awesome it made the music way electric and more than tolerable. If Immortal never lifts their status, 'Northern Chaos Gods' is a good good-bye from the band to fans. I don't want to close the door yet, but I'm going to seemingly have to. Abbath has moved on with no real intentions of getting back together with the band. He had a good career with them and on here the riffs are amazing that thereof. And the vocals in a realm of their own. Tough album here to duplicate and they've yet to do so. The only things that I'd change are some of the lead guitar work. The rhythms, sure are solid. Just the leads.

From overlooking this one for 20 years, I'm glad that it's a part of my collection. I'm sure Immortal fans HAVE NOT overlooked this one. It's filled with all sorts of good songwriting. And a perfect score it was well deserved of. All the way, good music. These guys in their day tore it up. 'All Shall Fall' and 'Damned In Black' a few others that were good besides my favorite which I mentioned that being 'At the Heart of Winter'. Just expect top notch playing on here with variety as such it portrayed as well. Don't wait any longer if you have this album is one that is a great in its own! (Death8699)

Immolation - Acts of God

#FOR FANS OF: Death Metal
Talk about some crushing death metal throughout, this band never falls short in being extreme! This is probably one of my favorites of theirs. Fresh riffs devastating the listener. Just all the way BRUTAL! There are tempo changes but mostly mid-fast to fast riffs the whole way through. A little of a clean tone guitars, but not much. The vocals keep the music underground and it goes well alongside the instruments. I don't mind any of this album, it's death metal to the extreme through and through. I wouldn't want anything changed either. The music is what captivates me ABSOLUTELY to the n-th degree!

The guitar riffs aren't overtly technical, they just are unique. And what a solid production quality! I think that's what made this release totally killer aside from the musicians amped it up entirely. I think that's what they lacked somewhat in previous releases. This one hits home all the way. After I heard it on Spotify, I had to order the actual CD. It's something that I can play over and over. I'm not a huge Immolation fan but I like how this sounded. The musicianship was phenomenal. The whole way through this one is totally in your face with brutality and guitars that just hit home in every single aspect.

As I say, the production quality was good and they're on a solid label being it Nuclear Blast. This one barely lets up in any aspect. They're slower riffs but overall the speed and the technicality in the leads were phenomenal. They definitely know how to construct sick rhythms and devastating leads. The vocals exhibit no variety to them which is ok because they wanted to keep it underground. I thought this all the way they know what they're doing! I'd rather not know the lyrics on here as long as they continue to conduct music that is so extreme. And everyone on here seemed to know what direction they needed to go.

This will probably remain the only Immolation that I own because it's in every aspect what I look forward to in a death metal album. The guitars hit home and the vocals just annihilate. Nothing needs to be changed on this album because everything is filled with precision, and precision with vigor! Check out the digital release to see if it's something that would be suitable to your metal pallet. From a skeptic regarding Immolation albums, this one is my favorite out of their entire discography! If you want something that totally slays, 'Acts of God' is where its total at! Take a listen! Blood Red Throne - Imperial Congregation

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
Brutal death metal in the vein of Suture and Dying Fetus, though less technical than Dying Fetus. The brutality is all there! The vocals crush they go well with the music! The riffs are the highlight of the album, they're probably the best of the bands since their predecessor. I even think that the music is its strongest that it's ever been! I've heard a few releases from this band and I think it definitely is in the ranks of superior to all of their releases! Everything just seemed to fit together and the guitars are right on cue. These guys just crush it all! I was glad that I picked up the CD after hearing it all on Spotify!

The music and the vocals are the highlights to this release. I think they are often overlooked in the metal community for whatever reason. This being one of their strongest releases if not the strongest! 'Fit To Kill' is arguably one of their stronger releases no doubt. But I'd have to say that this caught me into the circle of brutal death metal making it one of their superior releases to date. They worked hard on making this album quite the powerful one and I'm so impressed with the end result. Of course I listen to the guitar mostly though the vocals aren't at all annoying. They actually compliment to music.

Recording quality is top-notch and everything was well mixed into the quality musical instruments as well as the vocals. They seemed to be right on target I think that this one isn't very fast in their tempos just aggressive. I still think they're similar to modern Suture just not AS brutal. It's a close call though. I'm so happy that they brought this forward to the metal community and whooped ass hands down. There's not that much variety in the music it's just brutal as fuck. And the guitars are tuned down a few steps it sounds like. One of the top albums of last year no doubt just they need more publicity!

Again, I'm glad that I picked up this CD. It's totally my gig and hopefully lovers of brutal death metal. The music wholeheartedly crushed! These guys know what they're doing in the music department and the vocals brought this underground totally! It's so heavy and they use a lot of double bass drums to suit the music! So awesome, it's on repeat mode in my stereo! These guys know what they're doing in respect to songwriting. From start to finish it's quality metal. I know that I rated 'Fit To Kill' as a 80% and this one is getting the same rating but I didn't think it is a perfect score, but close, check it out! (Death8699)

Hypocrisy - Worship

#FOR FANS OF: Death/Doom
So this is similar to the more recent releases ('End of Disclosure'), but a bit slower, though still powerful. I admire their perseverance over the years making solid melodic death metal. Peter is definitely a big part of the metal community and has been for decades. He's written some strong, pivotal riffs on here which makes it stand out in Hypocrisy's songwriting style. Sounds like he tunes down to B or C, making it HEAVY sounding. There's this aura in each Hypocrisy album since they've turned to melodic death metal. But most of all, more recently. The vocals are vintage Peter, low-end.

Nevertheless, a bulk of these compositions are varying in tempos. And the aura is DARK. Peter always seems to choose metal that is not in the vein of anything else but his own creation. He's been true to the melodic death genre for decades. The synthesizers too are in a shroud abyss the guitars desolate. Encapsulated is the listener who's in a sheer chaos. Hypocrisy has been a band for many years and when they switched over to melodic death, they seemed to play it well and has their own distinctive sound. I believe they're going to stay in this till the end. That's a good thing and I'll hope for many more LP's to come.

I've found this release also devoid of any errors on the guitar parts or anything else. Peter did a great job as did his bandmates. I thought that the compositions were devoid of anything really unnerving or compositor. These guys did great here, but I'm still in favor of 'End of Disclosure' as my favorite from them. The riffs are still good, but not higher (to me) of a "B" rating. I think that the recording quality was again top notch. That much hasn't changed either. I was really anticipating this one as being a "flop", but it's not, no way. I think that they really made some great music in my humble opinion.

I had to hear this first before I bought it. I think Hypocrisy is doing great even being in the scene for years quality here. Despite the middle-aged band, their ideas for songs are still great. I was definitely in favor of them switching genres over 20 years ago. I think they're better of with the melodic death metal type gig than strictly death metal. That's with coming out on releases that only they could divulge to. Definitely a top rated band though they didn't get my pick for album of the year. I still though that this was a solid release. Check it out! (Death8699)

Behemoth - The Satanist

#FOR FANS OF: Black/Death
Being the first time reviewing Behemoth, I felt that it was necessary though they've already gotten so many reviews already of this one. So this album/band has been around for a while, but are to me being a newbie to them. And their music. I think that their style is pretty unique and cool. The guitars neatly orchestrated and played out. There weren't any songs on here that I disliked. It just took me a while to get into this one. Even though it's gotten some spins, more in this case is better. You get a better feel to what they're like as well. The band themselves are well established in the metal community.

The main thing that I took a liking to were the guitars. Definitely heavy but melodic. They pave out their own music unique qualities to them. I felt that they did well in that respect. Nergal their frontman know how to put out great music. A lot that's on here is their own style and vibe. It's dark, but still worthy of praise. Since I'm not familiar with their newer or older releases, I cannot really compare them to any of those. But they have me hooked. I'm in for the long haul with this band as long as they continue to put out quality material. And with this one, they did the band some justice. A great effort here!

I thought the atmosphere and sound quality was top notch. The vocals went well with the music. They definitely are a very dark band. And this one is an example of it. There are some blast beating on here though not to a very common occurrence. A lot of the tempos are rather slow (not all) but still well pieced together. I enjoyed this album from start to finish. I don't think any song on here isn't unique. They all did a good job at orchestrating original music along with the vibe that they portray. Nergal gives us some great musicianship and way in their genres to look for in a band.

I bought this CD because I'm a CD collector. And this band being so well reviewed, that I'd give it a try. I'm actually planning on getting more of their releases in their discography. This one was a good start though the album tittle is so grim 'The Satanist'. I'm sure that they don't want you to take it to heard, but just the fact that they are a definitely dark band who takes their music seriously in getting it to sound like the darkest pits of hell. You could probably find this one online and if you're new to the band, expect diversity in style. They really know how to get their sound out here and music awesomely played! Check this one out! Death Angel - The Dream Calls For Blood

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash Metal
This album is solid, it has a flare or flame to it with sheer energy flowing. These Bay Area thrashers have been active for quite some time! Pretty much 30 years it's safe to say. And they're still making good music. This one isn't their best, but it isn't their worst either. Quite a variety of sounds coming from acoustic guitar-work but mostly thrash guitar riffing. The leads were decent, too. But I really enjoyed the rhythms. And the vocals of course! They go well with the music. Most of the songs are high energy! They have that Death Angel groove to them as well. Kind of like on their earlier work 'Act III'. But not entirely.

These guys are killer live as well. Too bad no concerts in Covid-19. The band keeps making killer music even up until now. They're veterans, safe to say that. They still have that intensity to their riff-writing. I would say all the songs I liked pretty much. I think the vocals carry the music and overall energy to the record. They really need to keep going in this thrash metal direction. And the riffs are pretty original sounding (like always). They change things up a bit but not that much. I like the guitars the tone is chunky. They don't need to hold back in their writing. They know exactly what they're doing.

The production quality was excellent it did them justice. And they didn't really need to change anything on here. I like the music the most but the vocals just have so much intensity. Not ALL THE TIME but a lot of the time. Their tempos change up quite a bit which gives the music variety. I cannot stress enough of the guitars sounding KING. They're just so darn catchy. The lead trade-offs too are phenomenal. It's a sheer domination! There's only a few places where you find some real screaming. But not an overabundance of it. The intensity of the guitars it goes well with.

This is a later album in their career as thrash metal musicians. They're still killing it! Support the band! One things to notice are the guitar riffs. They're really catchy and original. They're totally slaying! This release is just sheer domination. They really know what they're doing and how to make cool, original thrash metal. There's an abundance of energy to the record that it just soars. I liked this the whole way through the album. Totally recommended for thrash metal lovers and support the Bay Area thrashers Death Angel! (Death8699)

Destruction - Under Attack

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash Metal
Pretty divulsion of packed thrash revolution, as they would most likely utter. One of the few left with Mike on guitar being the founding member since '82 or '83. Schmier now is one of the only founding member of the band. Still on here for guest lead guitars have Harry (ex-Destruction) who's been superb the whole way through his career with Destruction. The songs here are definitely quality! It's probably a better LP then their current on 'Born To Perish'. They put forth one great concoction of songs that totally kick ass. I thought it definitely stronger than 'Metal Discharge' and 'Spiritual Genocide'. One of their better ones!

The riffs are really cool though not as catchy as the early Destruction or late 80's work by the band. I felt that 'All Hell Breaks Loose' and 'The Antichrist' were some more modern full-lengths that caught Destruction to the core. I like the fact that they had multiple guest musicians on here except that their follow-up album from this one 'Born To Perish' features them as another 4 piece that was like in the late 80's as on 'Eternal Devastation/Mad Butcher' and 'Release From Agony'. I enjoy their era with Harry Wilkens as member of the band. He was also featured on 'Live Without Sense'. I feel that they're stronger as a 4-piece.

The sound quality on here is top notch! And the riffs are probably some of the better that dates back to early '00-'01. They diversify as well, it isn't just solely thrash, they mix it up with some clean guitar as well. Schmier sounds like Schmier where during the earlier days he has a little bit of a higher pitch voice and on their latest live CD 'Live Attack' he's a pitch lower it seems. I like him on here and the energy to this album is high! They seem to tear it up in the riff department. The vocals go well with the music. Everything goes and flows smoothly the whole way through! There wasn't a track on here that I disliked.

You can get this on YouTube, I'm not sure if Spotify has it streaming. It doesn't on mine but in any case I bought the CD. I felt like it's Destruction so there's hardly a chance of them disappointing. And I was correct! Every song on here is full of energy and great riffs. I felt that they were way strong on here though they get a good "B" rating on here. Definitely Destruction infuriation galore. These guys have the energy and originality in their songwriting. They don't let up on here and the cover track on here which I believe is Venom was well played out. And of course the outro being "Thrash Attack." Own this one! (Death8699)

Exodus - Persona Non Grata

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash Metal
Vintage band Exodus with fresh vocals via Steve "Zetro" Souza and guitar by Gary Holt takes me back to the 'Impact Is Imminent' days. Though it's 21st Century work from the band there's still somewhat of an old school vibe. It must be Gary and Steve, that's who stands out the most for me on this killer release. Overall though, it was decidedly so that this is an excellent effort! Interesting sounding riffs taken back to the old days when years seemed to stand still. A little off-shoot from Death lyrics there but that's how I feel with this album. Like they're back and packing a punch still kicking ass like they haven't aged.

"Slipping Into Madness" is a good track I can relate to but most of the songs are solid riff writing here is top notch! The aura of the album has a tinge of the old school vibe but definitely 21st century Exodus. Zetro has put forth invigorating vocals that suits the music perfectly. The leads are top notch too, some a little sloppy but not much. Mostly the rhythms kick ass. That's what resonates with me. The overall sound is in your face Exodus with not much a bit of anything else. I like the sound quality a lot. And some of the acoustic guitar melodies. Mostly this album is pretty heavy from a thrash metal stand point.

They did a good job with the mixing and getting the guitars up there in priceless justice. So, in effect the production was superb. The instruments were all in astoundingly great submission. These guys have been around for over 30 years and they did great in these turbulent times (Covid-19) maybe touring in 2022 as a part of the Big 4. The Bay Area thrashers need to unite with others featuring Metallica, Death Angel and Megadeth (and other bands such as Anthrax & Testament). So many great bands like Exodus are still around, Slayer cashed in after about 35 years but it was just their time.

I downloaded this one first and liked it so much that I bought the CD. Doesn't mean that you have to do the same, but I collect CD's still. So yeah, it was worth paying money out of my pocket to support the band. There are so many highlights on this album a small review isn't enough to appreciate what they've done with this release. They have shown that they're not going to leave the scene especially during hard times not being able to tour. That hasn't stopped them from making great music hitting those creative juices and putting forth one helluv a good album here. Check it out thrashers, it won't disappoint! (Death8699)

Cradle of Filth - Existence is Futile

#FOR FANS OF: Gothic Black
Sounds like a blend of the old mixed in with the moderately old to the newer evolution of Cradle. This has bits and pieces of all with it's own twist with it as well! I actually liked it enough to buy the CD. It's not too much on speed here riff-writing talking here. It's mainly gothic style slow to moderate to semi-moderate songs. I'd say it's a great mix of everything with fresh music evolving into a greatness that was missing on more recent COF releases. This one is something that I can listen to ad nauseum and not at all get tired of. Well, maybe down the road but you get what I'm saying.

Also, sounds like they tuned down to D on their guitars maybe a little lower but I don't think so. Many COF releases have the similar tuning that is just typical of them. If you're a guitarist, this is a heads up. The synthesizers aren't drowning out the music either seems as though it's well laid out and forthright. Some songs seem more geared towards quicker licks and Dani sounds like he did on 'Cruelty and the Beast'. All of it makes sense musically. The guitars also seem to parrot a little of Devilment in them, one of Dani's projects. Not sure if it's a similar lineup really, but Devilment without as much intensity.

The musicians on here do a great job in their performance with Cradle. Seems though there's a different lineup every release. Hence them bringing forward the COF evolution. I am not sure why Dani insists on different musicians all the time. That makes it a little tougher for the current musicians he amasses to learn old songs for when performing live. He's just weird like that I suppose. But I tell you, the music on here will blow your hair back, it's just if you will fresh and gothic eerie like that. I'm not sure you'd label this as a concept album like 'Cruelty and the Beast' but it's definitely focused within cosmic shifts.

As I mentioned, I ordered the CD and so did some friends of mine. To those where digital isn't everything! It was worth this purchase. They really did a good job here and shown us something quite new despite showing a resilience towards past works. I liked the guitar and vocals...the synthesizers don't overly amass themselves they go along well with the guitar. It's nothing like 'Dusk...And Her Embrace' to me but just fragments of it. I concluded before even checking this out that it'd be totally like newer boring releases but when I heard it I was sadly mistaken! This is everything COF fans hoped for on this one! Check it out! Carcass - Torn Arteries

#FOR FANS OF: Death Metal
It took a lot of spins to come up with a comprehensive text and score for this album. I wanted to be as fair as possible. This one holds in the ranks of not Surgical Steel but Swan Song where that one left off. It seemed easier to like 'Surgical Steel' because it was fairly straightforward and catchy. 'Torn Arteries' is an acquired taste. It's a mix of melodic death with death 'n roll. So watch for those two styles meshed into one. The whole 49 minutes became interesting after a while. That's why I hesitated before I scored this and simply waited. The rhythms are just a little weird. They weren't entirely catchy, though some things stuck!

Jeff's voice doesn't change on here and there were a little back-up grunts (not many) though it was mainly the raspy vocals. They went good with the guitar riffs, they seemed to flow. I just think that Bill could've done a better job in the riff department. However, they were riffs that weren't duplicated on previous releases. Bill felt that the split that they had in time when they reformed he felt that it'd never happened because he failed in music (he's contention). It was because Carcass never amassed the popularity that At the Gates and In Flames did. It was based on a two-part YouTube interview less than 10 years ago.

A lot of people didn't care for this one. But I just thought it's different but it's still them. At least Bill and Jeff are playing new music. I wasn't happy it took about 8 years for this one to be released and I can't for a fact say it is their pinnacle in contribution to the metal community. I just felt it was a "B." I swore that I told my friends it was a 75% but I raised it after further analysis. Carcass of the old era will never be again, especially since Ken is permanently damaged and can't play for Carcass anymore. And Michael is off with Arch Enemy making his contribution to the melodic death metal genre. If it weren't for 'Heartwork' I don't think Michael would've left. I'm not sure.

A review poured out on its debut to the music world and it's taken me weeks to amass an assessment of it. I wanted to be as thorough as I could be. Yes the music is good in higher ranks, the production was solid, the compositions strong, and it's overall essence is positive. For those streaming, I bought the CD. However, I listened on Spotify the day it was released. I thought it good enough to buy but dwelled on this review for almost a month. Not that long, but you get what I'm saying! Be careful in making a judgement of the album, give it playing time and a fair shake before determining whether or not you'd say good things about it! Great effort! (Death8699)

Municipal Waste - Slime and Punishment

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash/Death
Another solid release by this band! I enjoyed the whole album. I don't like the vocals as much as on previous releases though. They're a bit annoying even though it's still Ryan Waste singing. I enjoyed the music immensely, just took points off for the voice. Not the back-ups, just the main one. The guitar riffs make up for it though, probably one of the stronger Municipal Waste releases in the music department. I enjoyed this the whole way through. Another 30 minute album though. I wish they were longer, but it is what it is. I think that they did a lot of justice to the metal community over the span of 20 years.

A lot of good riffs on here and it's a good thing that you can hear the bass throughout the album. A lot of bands the bass is barely audible. Not on their releases. They just sound awesome the whole way through the guitars flourishing. It's amazing they have fresh riffs release after release! I don't see many flaws with the album, it's full of energy and vigor! And the leads are good, not really sloppy. The rhythms I like the most of! The vocals are just a little irritating but nothing not worth stomaching. This whole release is full of energy! I like the music the most and the sound is good.

Another under 30 minute release here but it's worth a listen to if you want to take a break from death metal or doom. It's full of good vibes and electricity. These guys are masters on how to create some quality music. A lot of their albums are similar though, but they're still really awesome. These guys are in this music scene for about 20 years still lighting up the eardrums! A lot of the songs are on average of 2 minutes tops but there are I believe 14 tracks on this one. They really know how to generate speed in the rhythms are the vocals are just annoying to me. That's the only aspect of the album I disliked.

Check out this one for it's electric vibe and crossover twist. I found it to be really likable and quick. These guys show that they're on top of their blended genre. They don't give up with their unique sound and static tempos. They just don't ever seem to let up the whole way through. They just keep on jamming it home and the leads are decent. Definitely one of their top releases to date. Only a few other top this. I found only a few things that were just on my nerves and I discussed that. If you're looking for dynamite crossover/thrash checking out 'Slime and Punishment'! (Death8699)

Cradle of Filth - Cryptoriana - The Seductiveness of Decay

#FOR FANS OF: Gothic Black
Probably one of the better COF releases that's modern. I like the guitar riffs but I never really liked the synthesizers that much, but it creates that dark atmosphere. Dani's vocals are pretty much top notch but they will never be as good as on 'Dusk...and Her Embrace' or 'Midian'. Being that he went through vocal chord surgery would be why. The energy of the album is there and the riffs in the guitar department are up there too. That's what sucked me into this release. Though I think it might be a tad better than 'Nymphetamine' and 'Thornography', but it's a close call. I'll just never like the synthesizers.

I think the guitars overshadow everything else that's going on during this release. And of course Dani. I would have to say that this is probably the best COF release in years. I don't like a lot of their newer material, but this one kicks ass! The leads are pretty good as well. Some well put together music. Of course the synthesizers just take getting used to and on this release they aren't overpowering. They mesh well with the music. Just sometimes they just seem chronic. The song structures seem to be strong especially the guitars being in tact for the blasphemous sounds these songs emit.

Most of the songs I like a great deal of. They seem to be influx with everything on here. Nothing like the old days albums seemed to be the most creative. I think here they used some of that creativity with the newer lineup with what they had to offer. Some songs (though just a select few) have a clean guitar which makes the sound more mellow, at least for a short stretch of time. Some of the riffs are the best I've ever heard from the band and the leads are quite good. Though they could've taken them out I would've given them a higher rating. But yeah, quite diverse and tempos all over the place.

The production quality was quite good on here. And the female guest vocals they mixed in pretty well. I would say the quality of the sounds is top notch. I would've given this an A- if they would've taken out certain tidbits of things they had on here. My favorite highlights were of course the guitars and the vocals. Dani does a great job on here (as usual). Again, the strongest COF release in years. Keep in mind what I said about this one in comparison to semi-older releases. Check it out! (Death8699)

Amorphis - Under the Red Cloud

BACK IN TIME:
(Alberto Calorosi)
