Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding

BACK IN TIME:
#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
Killer beat to this one and as Barnes is usually into his low-end bellowing voice it's a little different on here. It's not really guttural voice, he actually sounds just right on this one. It's low-throat, but not like 'Butchered at Birth' or 'Tomb of the Mutilated.' It's actually better than both. Not musically, but his voice doesn't ruin the music. The music with the vocals go hand in hand. The riffs are spot on! This is where he flourishes, especially various different vocals styles. Barnes is at his best on here, he's tops with me. I don't know why he wasn't able to spew out better vocals on the first few releases. They definitely hit their pinnacle here.

The music on here is simply killer! It's a little of the past mixed with the present releases. It's catchy. Every song on here deserves praise. They've just put some juice in these riffs that keeps them ever flowing! Barnes has a little bit of high-end screams, though they're not held with great immensity.

The riffs on the guitars mix well with the vocals. It just fits on here. By far, this is Barnes's best output and contribution to the band up until his departure. What an onslaught musically and vocalistically. It's strange that we didn't see this in a part of him when Cannibal was just starting out.

I'd have to say that the following outputs with Cannibal like "Vile", "Gallery of Suicide" and "Bloodthirst" were good, but they got even better. I'd say with Corpsegrinder they slay on "Kill", "A Skeletal Domain", "Red Before Black" and without O'brien they needed someone like Rutan to fill O'brien's shoes. The new one "Chaos Horrific" is one of their better with Rutan, not so much on "Violence Unimagined." 'The Bleeding' was able to capture some very good songwriting and is one of their finest. Barnes is at his best, the music just crushes, and the musicianship is astronomical. There will never be a release like this one. Whatever happened to the band was that they were duplicating releases. When Corpsegrinder joined, they had already established themselves as a primordial death metal musicians. And when Jack Owen left, part of Cannibal wasn't the same. Cannibal seemed to duplicate recordings, you sort of knew what to expect. But on 'The Bleeding', they were at their best. Cannibal and Barnes. They tore it up! (Death8699)

Cannibal Corpse - Chaos Horrific

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
This album is a step-up from 'Violence Unimagined.' They seem to have more solid riffs, as Cannibal has taken another 5-piece band with one of the top releases for 2023 in my view. They deserved it! Everything seemed to be right on here, with no ounce of anything mediocre.

I think Rutan made more of a difference on here as well. He and Rob make a good combination on guitars. More wicked leads and rhythms on here! The songs are way tighter and this is my favorite release from Corpsegrinder ever since he started with the band replacing Chris Barnes. He's got way more range than Barnes ever had for Cannibal Corpse. The great thing about this release as well is that it's got a lot of variations with the songs. Even though they were more in B-flat tuning to get that chunky sound, it sounds great. All the tracks were good! I listened to the sample before I downloaded this and then bought the CD. I'm so glad I did!

This is one of the top 3 Cannibal albums I'd choose in their entire discography. The others would be 'Red Before Black', 'Torture' and 'Butchered At Birth.' This new one is going to get plenty of air time for me, especially sharing this information to readers to assure them that this is the band's monument ever since some of their previous work that is worth mentioning.

The mixing was top-notch to feature the guitars well in synch with the vocals. The only thing that I didn't hear a lot were Corpsegrinder's screams, they're mainly guttural. However, it suited the music!

If you want to know one top album from 2023 this LP hits the pinnacle for the band! Everything on here is killer! The production quality especially since they've been on Metal Blade is great. I don't see any signs of them slowing down! Loving this whole release! (Death8699)

Cannibal Corpse - The Wretched Spawn

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
What a BLAST of Cannibal Corpse tearing apart your speakers. I've never before listened to this album, nor have I ever owned it then gotten rid of it. It's staying in my collection! All-Star lineup featuring Jack, Pat, Alex, Corpsegrinder and Paul. This is one of their better line-ups though Rob and Eric are in the slot of guitar duties. Sounds like they're in B-flat tuning and have that ultra thick sound on the axe's. Corpsegrinder has range on here, especially with the screams! The music went well along with the vocals. Everything seemed to fit into place on this one. No complaints really, just Jack has never really been strong on his lead playing.

I thought the songs were well written musically. Just never been into the gore lyrics, I tend to focus on the music as well as the sound of the vocals. The drums are usually solid, no complaints there. The production was top-notch, it really does sound great. These guys did good on here, though I feel that there's a tinge of the past, then paves the modern way Cannibal sounds. The riffs just kick ass here, wholeheartedly. Corpsegrinder is better than Barnes ever was! That's my opinion at least, the guitars and drums just favor the way Corpsegrinder conducts his Barnes had no range.

As I've mentioned, the sound quality or production it was top-notch! The music was well mixed and everything was woven in smoothly. This is one of my favorite Cannibal releases to date. It's just completely brutal and in your face. The riffs just talk to you so to speak. You hear Jack and Pat rip it up. It was all five of them kicking ass. No holds barred here, these guys are just legends. I'll never favor the lyrics but as long as the music goes, I'll always be a fan. Their latest 'Violence Unimagined' was good though I think this one is tighter. The sound of the guitars and the vocals are better here!

I took a chance since 'Vile' didn't do anything for me and man I was blown away! It's much more convenient to stream this than to get the actual CD. Show support for the band and buy this album. If you don't have a CD player, buy one! I'm that passionate about this album shining through and though! Top 3 of my Cannibal albums this one fits in there. How can I make such a statement? Play this in your car, then you'll hear what I'm talking about. All the songs were good, they were strong the whole album. Beats your eardrums to shreds hailz Cannibal Corpse with this masterpiece! Cannibal Corpse - Kill

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
Ferocious and unrelenting this is a MONUMENT of death metal and a boon to Cannibal Corpse's discography. Even though this is 15+ years old, it's still popular among my death metal choices when feeling I need brutal. The guitars are chunky and thick, just what the meat holder's in their cast iron brains in belting out amazing/metamorphosis style metal. I was surprised it took a while before I noticed more/less of this. So here now is it's justice! It's hit-or-miss when it comes to Corpse but they've managed to put out some good LP's following this one. Pat O'Brien is no longer with the band, but I still think they're making monstrous material.

Here, Corpsegrinder shows us again the diversity in his vocals from guttural to screaming. It was amazing his story in metal history. He was the guy who didn't want to do work in classes just sing in a band. Well, he found it and they found him a good replacement for Chris Barnes. Barnes should be edging retirement after some poor Six Feet Under releases while Corpsegrinder continues to belt it out! He does so quite unbelievably. And Corpse still has a long life left enter Eric Rutan on rhythm/lead guitars. Though the new one doesn't pack as much of a punch than this one does. Hard to surpass this release!

The production quality is quite good and that being said the music is justified in the guitars enter everything else. I must be a guitar player but it's not what I notice everything in a recording. The music on here is just devastating! They put together a lot of quality riffs that at times are hard to grasp probably because they're in B-flat tuning. I surmount that both guitarists Rob and Pat worked equally on designing sick riffs to this release. The good thing about this is that everything fit together nicely to some brutal death metal! Everything seemed to be great here and they as a band work well together plus I'm sure it's a big loss to lose Pat.

I bought this a while ago, just thought I'd write about it now since it's still getting air-time in my stereo. They don't seem to disappoint here, my favorite things about this one are the guitars and vocals. Their latest 'Violence Unimagined' is tight too but not as thick as the chunky guitar is here. Nor are the leads as good. This is one of my favorite Corpse releases aside from the early stuff ('Butchered At Birth' & 'Tomb of the Mutilated'). I'd have to say that 'Torture' and 'A Skeletal Domain' are my favorites as well. 'Kill' is among the many fine releases from and unrelenting and brutal group CANNIBAL CORPSE is! Check this out! Cannibal Corpse - Bloodthirst

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
What a killer album that has so many highlights to it! Brutal death metal like they always deliver but the riffs are just fantastic. And the vocals. Everything seemed to fit in on this release. It's one of my favorites from them! This one is a step-up from 'Gallery of Suicide'. The riffs are better and so are the vocals! It seems like this album has a lot of balls to it. Uncompromising death metal the whole way through. It just doesn't seem to let up at all whatsoever! The only drawback is that it's a little over 34 minutes, but intense nevertheless. I find not many flaws with the playing at all and Corpsegrinder's vocals go well with the guitar.

The songs were key to get into the guitar mostly. That crunch tone with guitars that are in B-flat tuning. Totally brutal! The sound quality was top notch. No mistakes there! This album was released almost 25 years ago and still is a top Cannibal release. A few hit-or-miss with this band though just a few flops in their entire discography. I like the Corpsegrinder era of Cannibal though there were a couple of good releases with Barnes on vocals. I would say 'Butchered At Birth' and 'Tomb of the Mutilated' were the best in the Barnes' era. I just don't think he has the range that Corpsegrinder has.

The production quality was superb and every instrument was in sync hands down! There's really nothing to dislike here especially with death metal fans. Some of my favorites from Cannibal besides the two Barnes was on (previously mentioned) but with Corpsegrinder 'The Wretched Spawn', 'Gallery of Suicide', 'Torture', 'A Skeletal Doman', 'Red Before Black' and 'Violence Unimagined'. So it's fair to say that the most consistent they've been with Corpsegrinder. This one is top and 'Kill' is another killer release by them. But it sucks that Pat O'brien is no longer with the band. Meth addiction rendered him insane!

I bought this CD. I'm not saying that you should too if CD's aren't your "thing" at this point. Most people just stream music which doesn't really benefit the band much. Cannibal has come a long way from their origin up until now. They're still kicking ass and 'Bloodthirst' is a monument. Everything seemed to fit musically and vocal wise. I would check it out if you haven't yet. Everything just conquered! They just needed it to be longer but I didn't take points off for that. think this is one of their top releases in the 90's Cannibal era. This is an album that's difficult to top! Check it out if you haven't already! (Death8699)

Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
This is a top album by the band over their enormous career. The fact that it's a follow-up from the debut album, they show much superiority in songwriting here, my favorite ever. Barnes is better on here than 'Tomb of the Mutilated', he wasn't so burly sounding, just gruesome enough to show us that he's at his mightiest. The tempos of the songs are pretty fast and the riffs are top-notch. So are the leads. I'm surprised that at early on their style was ingenious. They knew how to construct death metal that has now lasted over 30 years. On 'Butchered At Birth', they took time to formulating riffs that instill precision.

There is no downfall found in this album, it's purely immaculate in its entirety. They really show the listener what a great release is where it's at: IT'S ON HERE! Barnes has no variability on here. It's purely deep throat the whole way through and the guitars are as I've said ingenious. The leads are quality too. I think it took quite a while to construct music like this because not only is it original sounding, but it's unique too. All of the songs took a shit-ton of guts to put forth throughout the entire entourage. These guys know how to kill it and not only that but KILL IT ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ALBUM!

It's my favorite Cannibal Corpse release to this date. I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon here, I'm being honest about my preference in this respect. Barnes is solid the whole way through the way that wasn't evident on it's predecessor nor the follow-up from this on 'Tomb of the Mutilated'. I've found no flaws on this album and it'll continue to remain my favorite of all time. The music, vocals, production and sound quality is all tight. And Jack/Bob rip it up here on the guitars. Original member Alex Webster racks it on bass as well. Not to mention Glen Benton guest vocals on a track on here to show you that they were at a high level early on.

I bought this CD a while ago and you can probably hear it on YouTube if you're a newbie death metal fan or metal fan at that. I didn't find any flaws on here throughout the release. I would say support the band and buy the CD. And forget the digital, pull out your boom box and listen to it on there. That's where I started listening to it so take back time and go old school! These guys always showed that potential and on here they deliver. Definitely will remain my favorite release on here of all time but that doesn't mean the newer material is bad in any respect! Check this out! (Death8699)

Cannibal Corpse - Violence Unimagined

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
I checked out a few tracks on here and it got me curious.Upon official release in the states, I downloaded the whole album on Spotify. I was really impressed so I went ahead and bought the CD. I thought that the riffs were really solid and now entire Rutan and exit O'brien. I think it was a good move for the band though I was a fan of O'brien's guitar playing. The solos on here weren't their greatest, but Barrett was still solid. The whole band was responsible for the songwriting which of whom were the ones that performed the best on here. I thought that Corpsegrinder was solid too, but it's a lot less screaming.

All the tracks to me were interesting and catchy. They're still tuned down to B-flat creating that real low sound guitar/bass wise. I thought they were heavy as f***. Everything seemed to flow rampantly and overall, I thought their best since 'Gallery of Suicide' and 'A Skeletal Domain'. 'Red Before Black' was also solid but I just liked this more. I thought that they put together a lot of their talent on here and it really showed overall. The music videos were also pretty vile, but it's Cannibal Corpse, what do you expect?! The sound quality on here is top notch as well. Overall, definitely an A-.

There wasn't anything on here that was half-assed or done without precision. I felt all 42 minutes of this was exceptional. And the production sound was right on there. Yeah, they also don't sing about religion or politics but gore?! In that respect, controversial. Some of their lyrics were banned in foreign countries. Not for this album (that I know of) but if they haven't seen the lyric sheet, they might as well. Nevertheless, we still have their music down. And if Rutan stays with the band for succeeding releases, he'll be damn well as good as he is on here! As long as they continue to come together on the songwriting, they continue to have a long career (as they already have!).

As I said, I was curious to see if this was more solid or about equal to 'Red Before Black' upon a couple of tracks that were singles, I found that I like this one more. Am I saying flat out buy the CD? No! But if you give this a chance, you'll hear that the riffs are more solid on here than they are on previous recordings. And Corpsegrinder tells interviewers too that it was a one-in-a-million chance that he'd fit in a band which he always wanted to ignoring schoolwork to perform in a band which was his passion. That's brought him today with numerous releases on Cannibal Corpse albums since early on. His message though: "stay in school." And 'Violence Unimagined' is a boon to their discography! (Death8699)

Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
Burly Barnes crushes here as does the death metal (witch brutal vocals) dominates this entire release. The riffs are the highlight (to me), being a former guitarist I'm able to absorb what's being played here. I'm surprised that I didn't write about this sooner maybe 30 years plus ago since it's original release. I have nothing but good things to say here. I think that when Barnes's vocals changed on 'The Bleeding' that was it for me regarding liking the band from this era. I thought that Jack Owen was his strongest on 'Butchered At Birth' and here. Not sure what happened to him after that during Corpsegrinder's era. Aside from the fact that he joined Deicide in 2006 or thereabouts.

I don't necessarily like live tracks on albums with exceptions. And from my understanding, Jim Carrey's favorite bands (or what's been talked about in the media is Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death). I'd have to say that what's so therefore dominating on here are again the riffs. And the bass you can hear throughout. Tempos all over the place but all interrelated. Barnes just soaks it up alongside the music and gives them that utmost gruesomeness. It sounds like he's going to chug that microphone. If they had more stable albums in respect to the music and vocals I think Barnes would've been a longtime member. Him and Six Feet Under are pathetic.

They were one of the most brutal bands back 30 years ago and they're still kicking ass. Though the guitars are way different in turning and currently Corpsegrinder with the band. There's been a lot of debate as to who's the most likeable over the years. I'd say consistently Corpsegrinder has been more solid. But I'm still appreciating Barnes on the first few releases. There's a wide variety as to who you would choose after all this time. I'd say, Corpsegrinder. He's got range that Barnes never seemed to ever have. But on the 2nd and 3rd album, I like him. After that, no more. He's just not diverse enough. But on 'Tomb of the Mutilated' he tears it up!

The mixing/production wasn't the greatest, but I still like the overall sound quality that the band sets forth thereof. There wasn't a track on here that I dislike. They were all strong musical annihilations with the guitars shredding it up. The lyrics we never tackle nor do we want to tackle. It's just gruesome and vile. The music and vocals are what's to focus on. I got this on CD a while back I'm certiain that they're on YouTube. I don't know about Spotify except for the more recent albums. I would tell you to do the band justice and just get the CD. It's worth its weight in gold. There isn't a track on here that's not good. Check it out! (Death8699)

Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death
It’s that time for another Corpse album. I won’t mess about at all and just have to get this off my chest – this album is mighty. It’s one beast of an album, full of everything and anything you could ever want from Cannibal Corpse. For starters, I’m glad that the band chose to work with a different producer. Not that there was anything wrong with the Rutan albums, but it’s just good to change things up a bit sometimes. It’s a bit of a gamble, sure, but if it works the pay off can be huge, just like it is here – and just like it was on Kill. I wish more bands would take this approach, such as Nile, rather than just working with the same producer over and over again. You never know who’s going to bring out the best in you. “High Velocity Impact Spatter” – just the title is enough to get you going, and shit, does the track ever deliver. One of the most crushing opening tracks in Corpse history. You’ll immediately notice that the guitars sound thicker than ever, the bass is nice and audible, the drums are exactly the way they are supposed to be, and Corpsegrinder sounds fucking amazing. His vocals are nice and loud in the mix without washing everything else out. Perhaps the best thing about this album is that it has something for every Corpse fan. The lighting fast tracks, the mid tempo, groovy tracks, and the downright dirty, evil tracks. It’s easy to hear things from their entire discography here. I've talked with a bunch of Corpse fans about this album, and everyone seems to have their own favorite set of songs – yet they are mostly different. Which just shows to prove that this album caters to a lot of different Corpse styles, which is great. The band, being the seasoned pros that they are, perform flawlessly on this record. That’s to be expected, and it would really surprise me if the technical ability wasn't up there with the best. What did surprise me though was the energy rushing through this album, something I felt their previous record “Torture” lacked. But here, it’s all over the place, and it’s absolutely relentless, and great to hear the band so determined. Another great thing on this album is that we have more contributions from Pat. Criminally under rated, Pat is an amazing guitar player. Not just technically, but he’s a fantastic song writer as well, so hearing more of his stuff on this album is a real treat. I wish Rob could get in there a bit more as well, as I have always loved his writing style in Solstice and Malevolent Creation. That said though, this is the best Cannibal Corpse line up there ever was and will be, and here the guys are in top form. For me, it’s hard to pick my favorites, but I would say that the strongest songs on the album are “High Velocity Impact Spatter”, “Sadistic Embodiment”, A Skeletal Domain”, “Headlong Into Carnage”, “Icepick Lobotomy” and “Hallowed Bodies.” I realize that that’s basically half the album right there, but Corpse really have cut the fat off of this one and just thrown that sucker on the grill. And the end result is just pure death metal badassery. Go get this. (Yener Ozturk)
