I thought this release was WAY underrated! I really like the guitars, drums, vocals, the whole sch-peal. I think that this band evolved over the years, some for the good, but most for the worst. Not on here, though, they have my utmost attention. I'm fussy when it comes to black metal. If an album is overruled by synthesizers, I'm not interested. They didn't go overboard on here. Everything was in sync with everything else. I cannot stress that enough. They really kicked ass on here, the musicianship is just insurmountable. I think the album is good the whole way through. Everything is original sounding and the vocals slay.

With the help of Galder on lead and Hellhammer behind the drum-kit, this is a no fail release to me. I don't care about other people's opinion on here. It's totally catchy and original guitar-work. And Hellhammer simply crushes as usual. This band should have progressed, but their latest is really terrible. I stopped following this band after this release. I just thought this was the last monument. The album 'Death Cult Armageddon' another one that slays. But I like this one more. Hence, the higher rating. They should've chronically recruited Hellhammer and Galder, but Silenoz has always been killer.

The music on here is what hits home for me. They really do the album justice with the songwriting on here. They don't overuse the synthesizers. But the aura is totally grim. As with past releases, as well. They really need this album for a change and the rhythms are just entirely dramatically well orchestrated. The riffs I look at most on albums being that I was a former guitar player. It just comes natural to me. The whole effort as a band on here is just phenomenal. They really kick ass here. The drums keeping in sync with the music. It's completely there all the way and the choruses are enigmatic.

Check this one out! It's definitely worth it. For black metal fans or just people who like metal, this release is a killer one! Everything on here is worth checking out, the music, the production quality, the vocals and the drums. Everything on here is just amazing. This album is filled with intriguing auras and high points. It's entirely amazing, and they picked an all-star cast. Hellhammer slays behind the drum-kit. And Galder does a great job on lead. But the rhythms are entirely original. Some of the variations in the vocals are intriguing as well. Get this album right now! (Death8699)

A good follow-up from 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant', but this album didn't surpass it in my estimation. The riffs are good and the synthesizers not overly powerful, though they were powerful. Not enough to drown out the guitars though. I think the riffs were solid, catchy and thick. That's one thing their predecessor lacked. Yes, this album a little more heavy than the last. Just the riff writing needed to be stronger and more creative. That's my view at least, but I still gave the album a "B" rating. And Silenoz does a great job on vocals. He makes Dimmu who they are. It's too bad the newer releases aren't as strong.

I felt that the vocals, guitar and synthesizers were the highlights to the album. They really hit home with me. It's not my favorite Dimmu release, but it's up there. I felt that 'Stormblast' was too mild a release, still good though. They toned it up in a big way in terms of the guitars. But it didn't seem like the guitars flowed with the synthesizers. That's one thing I felt was so awesome about 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant'. Everything seemed to flow together guitars and everything. Not on here.

Silenoz seemed ultimately angry on here though. It's a positive for the guitars to keep that aggression up there. It's just the riffs weren't catchy enough. They seemed to fall short even though the distortion tone was good, the riffs weren't. That may just be something I had to accept from this album. They really needed a better follow-up to keep the progression cycle in place. But I was mistaken. Dimmu just has had a winding path from glory to doom. If they continued on a stronger lineup, then maybe that would've transpired. But this wasn't the case. The line-up changes didn't do good for the band. Not on every album, just a good portion of them.

I felt that the production sound on here was good, but the music fell short. It's still good, but just like I said a "B" rating. If you've never heard this one or are new to Dimmu and their sound, you could make your own determination whether or not it suits you and your taste in symphonic black metal. I like this album, don't get me wrong, it's just not my favorite. I think ti'd be best to check it out on YouTube or Spotify to make your determination as to if you should be the CD. I bought the CD, but it sits on the shelf most days because 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant' is more in my headset. But still, check it out! (Death8699)

This is by far the best Dimmu Borgir album that I've ever heard! Every song on here is amazing! The music, the guitars, the synthesizers, the keyboards, the vocals all innovative and amazing! This is a pretty symphonic album, but the riffs and aura is totally unique. I wish they didn't take a path for the worst in the black metal community. The rhythms on here are simply amazing! I've not heard such amazing riffs especially on "Mourning Palace", that one is an amazing track. But all of the tracks are equally good! The synthesizers go well with the music. They actually compliment it. Careful orchestration!

The music itself is the best to talk about here. Just the distortion filled guitars make every track just amazing. They just knew what they were doing on here. They carefully paved the way for many bands to follow in their foot-steps and with this in existence there's still time for the band to improve. It seems as though with the newer material they've abandoned their creative roots and lost a lot of fans, including me. But I'll always be a fan of some certain albums. Maybe 4 or more of their albums. But this one is insuperable. I don't know how they went from such an interesting band to making what they now make. It happens.

The production quality was a little raw, but still awesome that you can hear everything going on and it just all fits. I don't have any complaints with this release. They went from slowly progressing in the old albums to this one then started regressing. It's sad. I wish that some day that they'd create something like this one again. But it's just wishful thinking. We'll let this one alone in a category of its own. Their music on here just slays. I like the guitar riffs and vocals the most. And I hate to say it but the synthesizers as well. They weren't annoying at all. They made the album more atmospheric.

If you're new to this band, this is a good start! They're at their best on here and the riffs just tear your speakers apart! Amazing album and interesting band but caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) with the albums. This one is a good one to start with, the previous are too raw. That's my opinion at least. This one is raw but the music steals the audience, absolutely! You need to hear this release it's so epic and dominates on so many different levels! Show the band that fans are still interested especially those not exposed to the older material! (Death8699)

Devo ammettere che mi sono trovato in seria difficoltà nel recensire questo disco, nonostante la stampa originale faccia parte della mia collezione fin dal 1996 quando uscì per la Cacophonous Records e quando ancora i Dimmu Borgir erano un gruppo alle prime armi, usciti però con un album che ne decretò l’ascesa a band leader nel panorama black sinfonico mondiale. Quando mi sono ritrovato tra le mani la ristampa di quel famigerato 'Stormblåst', grazie alla Nuclear Blast, fin dalle prime note mi è sorto quasi il dubbio di non avere lo stesso disco di allora. Ed è così infatti, in quanto non si tratta di una banalissima ristampa, ma la band ha deciso di ri-registrare completamente l’album per l’occasione e per di più con Peter Tägtren (Hypocrisy) alla consolle e Hellhammer (Mayhem, tra gli altri) dietro le pelli al posto di Nick Barker (che abbandonò la band l'anno prima). Il risultato che ne viene fuori ha un che di miracoloso in quanto sembra una nuova release firmata Dimmu Borgir. 'Stormblåst MMV' ha acquisito infatti, una nuova dimensione con suoni più intensi e oscuri dell’originale, grazie anche alla pomposa produzione di Peter. 'Stormblåst' resta una pietra miliare nel panorama black metal mondiale grazie a quel suo approccio sinfonico ma carico di un feeling malvagio, anche a livello dei testi, interamente cantati in lingua madre e totalmente anticristiani. Con 'Stormblåst' i Dimmu Borgir furono in grado di scostarsi dal black metal inteso in senso tradizionale come pura ferocia e annichilimento aggiungendo quel tocco di melodia magistralmente interpretata da ottimi musicisti. Riascoltando oggi questa nuova versione di quell'album, mi rendo conto che ancora una volta la band norvegese, guidata dal malvagio Shagrath, ha colto nel segno, modernizzando e migliorando enormemente i suoni, gli arrangiamenti allora un po’ scarni a causa dello scarso budget a disposizione dei nostri. Ribadisco il fatto che pur essendo una ristampa, questo 'Stormblåst MMV' si discosta non poco da quello del 1996, per i suoni, per gli inizi dei brani totalmente sconvolti dall’originale, per il modo di cantare dello stesso Shagrath, per le parti di tastiera, qui impreziosite dall’eccellente lavoro di Mustis. Inoltre la Nuclear Blast, per rendere ancor più appetibile il prodotto, pensò bene di aggiungere una bonus track mai pubblicata, “Abmaktslave” e un esclusivo bonus DVD con la performance dei nostri all’OZZFEST del 2004. Se non avete mai posseduto questo masterpiece, non c'è altro da fare che farlo vostro; se come me, amate la band scandinava, un re-investimento credo che ne valga davvero la pena. (Francesco Scarci)
