Definitely more brutal than 'Godconstruct' just not as catchy, I felt. But still a good album. A lot of screaming and brutality. Some really good melodies as well. They didn't earn this "70" rating for nothing! I just thought that it was their more extreme side to them. And the leads were solid. Pretty clean and fast! I just felt this evil vibe to this one but it's the direction that they wanted to take on here. Everything on here is super intense and tight. I just felt that they should've slowed down a little but the Swedish type of guitar tone is that of other bands that have this vibe on the guitars such as Dismember, Entombed (old) and Entrails (to name a few). However, they're from Germany acquiring this taste in guitar sounding Swedes. Fleshcrawl is another German band with the Swedish sounding guitars. They use the same pedal.

This album spews forth anger and aggression. They really are over-the-top on here. It's something to listen to when you're angry. The music is fast and the vocals are ferocious. I would venture to say it's without a doubt their most extreme release.

They don't change it up much in terms of their brutality here. It's just over-the-top noise-terror! They have a little variety here in clean guitars but not much. They're overall release is utterly uncompromising. It's one of those albums that is just balls out intensity.

They haven't been actively releasing albums since 2017 when this one came out. Maybe they're going to re-assess and slow down a bit. But I'm not sure if they're going to venture on that route. Maybe or maybe not. Overall, the guitars were devastating and the vocals totally blaring in your speakers! They fit the music pretty well. The guitars featured a lot of tremolo picking and other fast melodies. Can they reenact this intensity I'm not sure. But this album deserves some recognition for being extreme as it is. I'm surprised there have been no reviews for this release. It's baffling, what an intense and melodic yet evil vibe. What are you waiting for? Check it out! (Death8699)

#PER CHI AMA: Hellenic Black Metal, Rotting Christ

L'avevamo anticipato meno di un mese fa, in occasione della recensione di 'Nostalgia of the Full Moon Nights', che quest'anno la Loud Rage Music aveva fatto uscire qualche re-issue dei vecchi album degli Ordinul Negru. Dopo aver quindi tributato quell'album, ci spingiamo un po' più indietro verso le radici della compagine rumena, da sempre guidata dal buon vecchio Fulmineos. Ed eccoci quindi a parlare di 'Lifeless', il quarto disco dei nostri, che vedeva il solo polistrumentista gestire gli Ordinul Negru. E con un album di oltre 60 minuti e undici pezzi, non deve essere stata proprio una passeggiata. Il disco di primo impatto, risente fortemente del black metal ellenico, scuola Rotting Christ, il che, solo per questo, lo rende differente da 'Nostalgia...', che subiva invece una forte influenza norvegese. Interessante pertanto ascoltare le melodie dal sapore mediterraneo dell'opener "Wolves from the Ancient Forest" che pongono la one-man-band rumena molto vicina, per affinità musicali, agli esordi di Sakis e soci, penso a 'Thy Mighty Contract' o ancor prima, all'EP 'Passage to Arcturo'. Un po' fuori tempo massimo qualcuno avrebbe da obiettare, però il sound ellenico è un qualcosa che pare essere rimasto immutato nel corso del tempo attraverso le release dei Rotting Christ stessi ma anche di Necromantia, Varathron, Zemial, Thou Art Lord e molti altri. Allo stesso modo, la musica degli Ordinul Negru sembra possedere in questo 'Lifeless', la stessa insana magia di quei protagonisti che hanno reso illustre la scena. Quello che fa specie alla fine è che il nostro mastermind di oggi non sia greco, per il resto trovo che 'Lifeless', per quanto mostri ancora lacune importanti su più livelli (produzione, mixing, suoni rozzi e primitivi), incarni alla grande l'indomito spirito guerriero mediterraneo, il che si traduce in battagliere, feroci, tiratissime song, quali le brevi "Warewolf", "Eve Tales" o la più atmosferica "The Cold Spirit Arouse from a Forgotten Soul", passando poi per le più strutturate e lunghe (entrambe oltre i nove minuti) "Morbid Prophecy" e "Serpent's Promise" che delineano un black dalle tinte oscure, contraddistinto da un mid-tempo dotato di mistiche atmosfere orrorifiche declamate dalle magnetiche screaming vocals di Fulmineos, uno che vi ricordo aver cantato anche nei mitici Negura Bunget. Un pezzo che ho particolarmente apprezzato, più per le sue trovate tastieristico-sperimentali, è "Snow Covers the Blood of the Warrior", ma in generale è tutto l'album a convincermi, con la consapevolezza che è stato concepito oltre dieci anni fa con tutti i limiti del caso legati anche alle pesanti influenze che subisce. Fatte tutte le dovute premesse, trovo che l'occultismo di cui 'Lifeless' è intriso, lo renda più convincente del suo successore. (Francesco Scarci)
