It's a toss-up for me, either 'Dechristianize' or this one 'Icons of Evil'. I don't pay attention to anyone else's reviews, so there is no influence on scores or review material latched onto. I think 'Icons of Evil' is a little less raw and I favored it a bit more than the predecessor, it was a little more death metal oriented too. I like a bit of the guitar harmonics as well. Glen sounds like he does on later Deicide releases. A little monotonous but that's alright. It fit well with the music and lyrical topics (since he is a Satanist). I enjoyed the whole album, just didn't key into the lyrics since they're not my cup of tea.

A long album, but that's a little atypical of death metal releases. The average is about 30–45 minutes, this one is over 60 minutes! I thought that it was good, though they spent a while with the songwriting. And I liked the guitars, not so much the leads, just the rhythms and harmonics (like I mentioned). Brutal music, but I thought better than the earlier Vital Remains. Too raw for me, not 'Dechristianize' but their earlier work. Wasn't a big fan of the earlier stuff. They have not released an album since this one, but they're still active. I'm not sure when they're going to come out with new music but this one and 'Dechristianize' I'll settle with.

The production was top-notch I believe thanks to Erik Rutan who's now in Cannibal Corpse replacing Pat O'Brien. I'm not sure if there are any original members left of the original band. They've gone through so many line-up changes! And even though they're continuing on the Satanic route sort of death metal they could sure put out something of the "newer" sound for the band. We'll have to wait and see. I don't think Glen is going to do any more guest lead vocals since he's still tied up with Deicide. But I'll be watching for that, and he did a great job filling in with the time that he had with the band.

I had to order these CDs from eBay ('Dechristianize' and 'Icons of Evil'). They (to me) were worth ordering. Even if it is the only two that I'll ever own of the band. Don't expect anything utter than brutal death metal with a tinge of melodic work from those albums and this one even more brutal. Both 'Dechristianize' and 'Icons of Evil' are some of my favorite death metal albums of all time. I'm glad that I took the time to wait and see how they were on Spotify before purchasing both. I collect CD's so these two are greatly precious to me. Let's just not get into the lyrical concepts! Long live Vital Remains! (Death8699)

I thought this release was WAY underrated! I really like the guitars, drums, vocals, the whole sch-peal. I think that this band evolved over the years, some for the good, but most for the worst. Not on here, though, they have my utmost attention. I'm fussy when it comes to black metal. If an album is overruled by synthesizers, I'm not interested. They didn't go overboard on here. Everything was in sync with everything else. I cannot stress that enough. They really kicked ass on here, the musicianship is just insurmountable. I think the album is good the whole way through. Everything is original sounding and the vocals slay.

With the help of Galder on lead and Hellhammer behind the drum-kit, this is a no fail release to me. I don't care about other people's opinion on here. It's totally catchy and original guitar-work. And Hellhammer simply crushes as usual. This band should have progressed, but their latest is really terrible. I stopped following this band after this release. I just thought this was the last monument. The album 'Death Cult Armageddon' another one that slays. But I like this one more. Hence, the higher rating. They should've chronically recruited Hellhammer and Galder, but Silenoz has always been killer.

The music on here is what hits home for me. They really do the album justice with the songwriting on here. They don't overuse the synthesizers. But the aura is totally grim. As with past releases, as well. They really need this album for a change and the rhythms are just entirely dramatically well orchestrated. The riffs I look at most on albums being that I was a former guitar player. It just comes natural to me. The whole effort as a band on here is just phenomenal. They really kick ass here. The drums keeping in sync with the music. It's completely there all the way and the choruses are enigmatic.

Check this one out! It's definitely worth it. For black metal fans or just people who like metal, this release is a killer one! Everything on here is worth checking out, the music, the production quality, the vocals and the drums. Everything on here is just amazing. This album is filled with intriguing auras and high points. It's entirely amazing, and they picked an all-star cast. Hellhammer slays behind the drum-kit. And Galder does a great job on lead. But the rhythms are entirely original. Some of the variations in the vocals are intriguing as well. Get this album right now! (Death8699)

Angelcorpse - The Inexorable

The aggression is absolutely unfathomable! I've heard blackened death metal but these guys punch a whole in the speakers! Originality in the songwriting and it's a full under an hour onslaught of pure metal. A shit-ton of blast beats and fast riffs all over. They don't seem to let-up in intensity. I was more than satisfied with this album, enough to gear that it is flawless. It really makes bands in the similar genre to be eunuchs. That's one thing that this album offers, is balls out intense. There's no nonsense on here. They were all about ripping in guitar work. The riffs are filled with tremolo picking everywhere!

All throughout the album is fast tempos. They don't want to slow-down. And the leads shrike in complexity. Pure onslaught of terror and the lyrics all about the ungod. They didn't want to put together anything but music that's no holds barred brigade. There are only a few instances where they play a little less intense but not much! Everything coming together, that's fast and furious songwriting. I don't hear much let-up at all. They just wanted to tear everything apart including the listener. I believe the guitarist Gene went on to form Perdition Temple. They are similar to this just not as intense.

The production quality was good enough to make everything fall into place. The music was well-balanced just the guitars are so fast throughout this whole album. The vocals went well alongside the music and the tempos are unrelenting. It never gets old though I warn you one listen per day of this because it's so intense. They knew what they wanted to do on here, I'd say that this is sort in the vein of a concept album. And the concept is to annihilate the eardrums! They really can play some sick metal, and their talent shows throughout this entire release. The abomination in music makes this so memorable!

I decided not to download the album, I wanted it on CD. But yeah, you have your choice and if you want into this release then show the band some support (even though they're split-up), buy the album. I'm sure if you're a fan of this particular genre, you'll enjoy this immensely. But if you really want to, I'm sure Spotify or YouTube has this album on there. Definitely not one to pass up ABSOLUTELY. These guys know how to make a dynamic and intense album all the way through. Consistency was key on here and it definitely shows. I like this band, and it's a shame that you won't be hearing more from them. Own this! (Death8699)

This is a strong release by thrash metal veterans Destruction. Solid, quality riffs are featured on this whole release. It's amped up in intensity and the vocals have a sort of echo to them to make the atmosphere more surreal. It actually suits the music quite well. Not as strong of a release than 'The Antichrist', but it's still pretty darn good. One thing they could've cut out are the leads (Mike's). It's just too sloppy and he's never been good in that department so it's better that they have guest musicians filling that slot though now they're a 4-piece. Mike did great with the songwriting and the main riffs to songs but always lagged on leads. Harry was SUPERIOR.

I enjoyed this whole release! I would've scored it higher if (as I mentioned) the leads were taken out. They did make a great comeback which I didn't think would happen after 'Cracked Brain'. I'm glad they did return! All 'Hell Breaks Loose' was a killer comeback and I overplayed it (haha). It's hit or miss with Destruction though. Most of their early stuff I like with the exception of course their bad production quality ('Sentence of Death' and 'Eternal Devastation/Mad Butcher'). 'Infernal Overkill' hits home with me though. Their newer stuff a lot of it sounds similar to previous releases. That's the one beef I have with the band. They need to come back with their creative juices.

Fortunately, it was a good production on here and the riffs were pretty good. It was deserving of a "73" rating. There are quite a few guests on the vocal department (not that Schmier needs it) but it adds some variety to the release. And to correct I do think there are only a few guests for lead guitar. Overall, the thrash metal community stays strong with bands like Destruction setting the standard for this generation of bands putting out music in this genre. Destruction was one of the founding bands in the early 80s who really put forth a lot of original releases in that era of thrash metal. But now, they seem to blend in with a lot of other bands. 'Inventor of Evil' has a touch of the new and old work.

Production wise this release was done well! I believe they were on a budget that allowed this and spent some time in recording this. The riffs are fresh and nostalgic. I believe Schmier was strong on the vocals and Mike did well on the rhythm guitar. The fact that he's not with the band any longer makes me sad. He was the founding guitarist to the band and I guess he wasn't feeling it anymore. Band members commented on his departure that they (Schmier) were sad to see him go after all these years. But they also commented in saying that he was in poor health. At least he sounds great on here! (Death8699)

Brutal onslaught of death metal galore. This might be one of their best releases in their entire discography! They made some really original, unrelenting and pivotal songs ever. I cannot recall a Suffocation album being this likable. They really know what they're doing and they just did it, ABSOLUTELY! These guys knew how to pretty much invent brutal/technical death metal being an act of just enormous influence. Too many bands in the genre(s). They had some great vocals as well, it's not just the perfection in music, but yes the vocals are simply spell-binding. I can't recall listening to a death metal band like this and really liking the vocals.

The sound quality isn't the greatest though, otherwise this would be a top rating album. But it was way back when it was hard to get albums that were well produced. I think I'm right in saying that. These guys not only tore it up here but the music was mesmerizing as well. Hardcore death metal galore. This album is one that's never to be duplicated. Their debut might've been a bit more likable but both are simply amazing. I like the riffs on here a lot of tremolo picking and down-picking as well! These guys know exactly how to construct songs that are just original as all hell. They just wipe out the competition!

The sound quality, as I said, wasn't the greatest of a recording production wise but it's still admirable. The music on here is just blazing! I like what they did here but, if the recording was more solid, then I would've given this a 100%. Great band, album and rupturing genre. They know what to do music wise and they also had great vocals. Only a few things that I'd change on here. But everything else as it was phenomenal. They did the genre justice in regard to setting the tone to the genre. And just talent as well as passion here.

I know the brigade of streaming music probably has this on Spotify and YouTube, but I urge you to get the CD. I was able to pick it up at a local record store (yes those still exist!). So it's up to you to support the music community and the band themselves. You don't get the same effect as would be doing as getting a physical copy to the album. It's worth it! Sad for all of you that don't even have a CD player! It's a great album and this band is still surviving to this day! Show some respect for the music community and purchase this CD!! I doubt you will dislike it! Own it, today! (Death8699)

Megadeth - Youthanasia

This one doesn't pack the same punch as their previous 3-4 albums. It's more heavy metal based rather than thrash metal and the riffs aren't as catchy as 'Countdown To Extinction' but they're still good! It's just not so fantastic as the previous they seemed to get more seller out than anything else. But let's enjoy the Marty Friedman era of Megadeth. The riffs could've been better but still they're decent. The leads are alright, too! Dave seems to be a little bit whinier as well. I don't think anything could surpass Dave on their previous. Or even on 'Rust In Peace' and 'Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?'.

It's definitely milder than previous Megadeth releases. But that doesn't take away from the great guitar riffs and succinct leads by Dave and Marty. They both kick ass and it's to be this era of Megadeth to be the better. I'm not as familiar as the more modern playing of this band, I just know that I like the first two almost decades of the bands. Dave is always seeming to be in Metallica's shadow, or at least jealous of their success over Megadeth's. He definitely wanted a band that was heavier than Metallica but of course we know that Metallica took precedence over Megadeth, unfortunately. Maybe James's rhythms are catchier than Dave's could be it why they're favored?

The sound quality was definitely good, just like 'Countdown To Extinction' about the same. Just the music isn't as catchy as that album. But I still think it's worth a 75 rating, definitely. Some songs were really catchy and noteworthy. It's a step-down from 'Countdown...' but Dave shows that they still have it going strong. I always liked his songwriting. Even in Metallica, some of his riffs like in "Jump In The Fire" and "Phantom Lord" were some wicked riffs on those tracks. And on 'Peace Sells...', he came up with some amazingly catchy licks that are some of the best in the history of Megadeth (in my opinion).

For Megadeth fans, this isn't a disappointment. This is showing a somewhat milder more heavy metal type of gig than thrash metal. But they're still catchy with the songwriting and worth checking out if you haven't already. This is a way old album, but as you can see, I'm just getting around to writing about it. It's how far gone I am in Megadeth's discography. But this is because I only recently decided to give the band a fair shake which I've done. And I've found them to be among the greats. Look upon this as a victory for the band, not so much of a failure that Dave may think. Get it on CD or stream it or both! (Death8699)

Cannibal Corpse - The Wretched Spawn

What a BLAST of Cannibal Corpse tearing apart your speakers. I've never before listened to this album, nor have I ever owned it then gotten rid of it. It's staying in my collection! All-Star lineup featuring Jack, Pat, Alex, Corpsegrinder and Paul. This is one of their better line-ups though Rob and Eric are in the slot of guitar duties. Sounds like they're in B-flat tuning and have that ultra thick sound on the axe's. Corpsegrinder has range on here, especially with the screams! The music went well along with the vocals. Everything seemed to fit into place on this one. No complaints really, just Jack has never really been strong on his lead playing.

I thought the songs were well written musically. Just never been into the gore lyrics, I tend to focus on the music as well as the sound of the vocals. The drums are usually solid, no complaints there. The production was top-notch, it really does sound great. These guys did good on here, though I feel that there's a tinge of the past, then paves the modern way Cannibal sounds. The riffs just kick ass here, wholeheartedly. Corpsegrinder is better than Barnes ever was! That's my opinion at least, the guitars and drums just favor the way Corpsegrinder conducts his Barnes had no range.

As I've mentioned, the sound quality or production it was top-notch! The music was well mixed and everything was woven in smoothly. This is one of my favorite Cannibal releases to date. It's just completely brutal and in your face. The riffs just talk to you so to speak. You hear Jack and Pat rip it up. It was all five of them kicking ass. No holds barred here, these guys are just legends. I'll never favor the lyrics but as long as the music goes, I'll always be a fan. Their latest 'Violence Unimagined' was good though I think this one is tighter. The sound of the guitars and the vocals are better here!

I took a chance since 'Vile' didn't do anything for me and man I was blown away! It's much more convenient to stream this than to get the actual CD. Show support for the band and buy this album. If you don't have a CD player, buy one! I'm that passionate about this album shining through and though! Top 3 of my Cannibal albums this one fits in there. How can I make such a statement? Play this in your car, then you'll hear what I'm talking about. All the songs were good, they were strong the whole album. Beats your eardrums to shreds hailz Cannibal Corpse with this masterpiece! This is vintage old-school death metal. It varies in the degree of brutality it has to it. Killer line-up! The production quality is good too for a 1993 release. It might seem kind of "hollow" though. It's worth taking a listen to though. That is, if you are a fan of underground music. The vocals are guttural, the guitars are heavy and distorted to the nth degree, tempos are all over the place. Definitely worth checking out they remind me a little bit like Suffocation's early days. The blast beats, the music, and the double bass drums. This is a strong album in terms of their transformation. Their newer stuff is solid as well.

These riffs on here are beyond good, they're phenomenal. The vocals fit the music, totally! The songs are full of energy and originality. I really enjoyed this release. I'm surprised that I learned about this band till much later in their days!

I'm glad that I did learn about Sinister. I bought the CD because I chose to support the band, not just load up on streaming services. The music on here is hyper intensity! They speak to the listener on how they've come together as musicians and dominating the scene!

The leads on here are good as well! I don't think there's a pause in any of this that equally slows down, it exceeds everyone's expectations. The vocals stay brutal and the music just overly compensates the production quality. The tempos are fast and furious at times. But they have a certain groove to them that only death metal bands have to offer. What a magnificent release that will not let you down. I thought it good enough to buy that's how good I thought of it. I'll admit that I downloaded this before I bought it. But I'm so glad that I did! It was never boring or repetitive. It always held extraordinary tempos and the drums did it justice! (Death8699)

Sepultura - Schizophrenia

I'm surprised that I overlooked this album, probably because of the production quality and 'Morbid Visions' I wasn't a fan of though I did have this one on CD. I never ended up getting 'Morbid Visions' but I had built up potential to this band after listening to this one and 'Beneath The Remains.' I wasn't a big fan of their other releases except 'Arise.' Now, I don't follow them at all especially with Max and Igor are out of the band. But it's good what the Caveleras are doing now with re-recording the first two albums I believe. Max had to relearn the early songs and for this release the thrash metal was just flowing with energy!

Without the Cavalera's, Sepultura isn't the same. That's why I stopped following them. And I thought 'Chaos AD' and 'Roots' didn't have the same Sepultura thrash that I was so used to hearing from them. No one can duplicate their early sound.

So 'Schizophrenia' was a good follow-up to their debut 'Morbid Visions' and the riffs were pure thrash with a lot of intensity. The music itself was entirely original as was 'Beneath The Remains.' I had the latter on cassette. 'Schizophrenia' I always had on CD. The music, the leads, the vocals and the drums all showed what talent this band was early on. But after each successive release seemed to be less and less thrash except 'Beneath The Remains.' I guess they didn't want to duplicate albums but they never really progress as time went on. It seemed as though they got kind of lazy especially on 'Chaos AD' and 'Roots.'

There's a lot of history behind this band and the early days where 'Schizophrenia' arrived in the metal scene was about the times was with US thrash bands were emerging aside the success Metallica had with their start to their genre. But Exhorder, Exodus, Testament, et al were seeing to pop up in the scene but with the same problem: production quality. But 'Schizophrenia' was solid. Maybe the guitars were a little bit sloppy but not really to the point where they were really a garage band to the likes of others that were emerging. The songs on 'Schizophrenia' where well constructed though depressing as hell. This is the atmosphere that they wanted! (Death8699)

Cryptopsy - None So Vile

One word: BRUTAL! This album is unrelenting death metal. I'm not sure what I like more 'Whisper Supremacy' or this one. It's a close call really. I think that both are pretty solid, if not substantial! The music is just all out fast and furious. The album could've been a bit longer but oh well. Lord Worm's vocals are wholly guttural. It makes the album sound heavier than it already is! The music on here is pretty up-tempo the whole way through. And the lead guitar work is solid. I think the rhythms are anything but catastrophic. They just know how to make effective death metal. And technical at that.

I've found this album to be easy to like because the riffs were well thought out and technical. This band paved the way to modern technical acts like Archspire, et al. The leads definitely are spellbinding and the rhythms are ferociously fast! The whole album is pretty much like this! There isn't much let-up though tempos DO CHANGE. It's a mixture of riffs a lot of speed and some down-picking. But all-in-all it's well rounded in its entirety. I'd have to say this is one of my favorite albums of all time! Cryptopsy just knows how to come up with music that's amazingly original and expansive.

Lord Worm fluctuates on here with low-growls and contrast that to other higher pitched screaming. Everything about this release I like. The only thing that I don't is the longevity of it. 32 minutes is too short, but when you have a jacked up guitar player on here dishing out technical riffs it's hard to pan out a long album unless there were more tracks. But suffice to say here that this album deserves an "80" ABSOLUTELY! There are no real flaws to it and everything came together on this. The music, drums, vocals and production quality were all extravagant. Keep playing this one you cannot go wrong!

You might be able to find out about this on YouTube or other streaming sites like Spotify. I went ahead and bought the CD. It is WORTH IT! Uncompromising and unrelenting! An album that just packs a huge punch to your eardrums! Definitely check this out, it's an older release but worth finding out more about it. The production gave it justice and the listener has no real caveats except to get ready to hear spellbinding death metal galore. These guys tear it up, entirely. And their follow-up 'Whisper Supremecy' is almost equally as good, if not even better. But Lord Worm isn't on that one. Check this out! (Death8699)

This release is really awesome! It’s actually the first one I’ve heard from them. It was recommended from a friend and it might be one of their best releases to date. It’s like black/thrash which are two different genres meshed into one. The vocals are really good and they play the music really well. I really enjoyed the guitar riffs. In the production was top-notch. I like the chorus “kill kill kill...kill for the metal.” That’s a classic. These guys put out some pretty cool black/thrash metal. Some fast and slow tempos. But overall pretty original riffs. These guys are Chicago based. They haven’t put out material in a while but at least they’re still together. Some of the members are in a band called Bones. They’re rather different. But still good. They put on a good live show.

This is a catchy album. The riffs are pretty different, but still good. The whole way through it’s good. The yelling and rhythms take their form. I like the actual groove to the songs. Not really familiar with the genres put together. So in that respect, I suppose you can say it’s pretty unique. I wish I would’ve known about this band a long time ago. I like the production quality I believe it’s top-notch as well as I say. Just a lot of songs on here that an are really noteworthy.

All in all definitely well thought out release for a metal band from Chicago. I’m looking forward to hearing more of their music. For now., I’ll keep it at this one. Hopefully they’ll come out with some more new music but I’m sure it’s going to be a probably a different lineup. That’s all right though. They seem to be a growing band.

Glad I got to this CD but not how much it cost! I encourage you to check out this album either on Spotify or YouTube. You might decide on making a purchase for it. Everything about this album rules! Talk about brutal death metal, this band has it all. Blast beats, burly vocals, sick guitar riffs and a great production. They don’t let up on the brutality factor either. The riffs are insane. I thoroughly enjoyed this less than 30 minute abomination! I’m not sure about their older material but this one really hits home! Always good to hear some from brutal death metal in the vein of say Suffocation. No holds barred here!

The vocals mix well with the music and the blast beating galore is rampant. This album fluctuates between fast riffs to laid back sort of brutality. The leads are insane and the music is unrelenting. What a great album! I would urge you to buy the CD and show support for the band! They really hit home with their music. The vocals can be insane at times. Really a lot of screaming mixed with deep throat galore. They have it all.

I think this is one of the better releases in 2023 where death metal is concerned. Yes, it is a short release but the music and vocals make it out to be a successful conglomerate of noise terror! It seems as though the leads are pretty successful on here fast and furious. The vocals vary between deep throat to screaming heavily. And the music keeps up with this strain of extreme metal. I like how they change it up all the time. 

They definitely earned a “75” for this album. It’s totally in the vein of Suffocation and Suture. There’s a somewhat strong resemblance to those bands. They just don’t seem to let up in intensity. I thoroughly enjoyed this and the sound quality hit home with me. The mixing did them well and their unique blasting alongside slower tempos did them well too! I think that this one is going to be one of the top notch performance this year. The fact that they were able to weave in sounds so sorrel they showed what the scene can produce in terms of these less well known bands. Own it! (Death8699)

This vocalist sounds like a female version of Dani Filth. There’s actually more than one tone of vocals. It’s mainly guttural throat with variations. I like it. This one tops their debut 'Echoes of the Soul.' I’m missing Sonia Anubis though but they’re still a great band. Melodies galore mixed with hardcore death metal. The leads are superb too. I weigh heavy on bands that incorporate leads in their music, a lot of them are whiskey washy but Crypta has technical guitarists that live up to their potential. The band is in their 20’s I don’t think older than this.

Everything seemed to fit in quite well the riffs, leads, vocals, production, mixing and more! They have a lot to contribute to the death metal community. After Sonia’s departure from the band, they seem to have a lineup that’s phenomenal. It took me a while to get used to the vocals on their debut but now I’m highly acclimated to them now! And they’re not just screaming they have a lot of variety. Really hardcore which goes well with the music. There aren’t many styles here, just death metal with the Dani Filth type female vocals. It goes well with the music. I like the deep throat onslaught as wel!

The riffs and leads are showing signs of immense progress since their debut came out. There’s just a lot of dynamics and variety in their music. The leads are quite technical like Sonia was. They’re not as good as her but they’re still lynching the metal genre with tremendous potential. I feel that if they continue on this path they’ll be successful. They’re a pretty new band that shows promise and hopefully people will buy their merchandise.

In some instances, the leads guitar work is wicked. Their switching off in the vocals to give the sound more variety. They shy no way but phenomenal in their efforts. I’m glad also that they have a longer album totaling in about 51 minutes in length. Every song on here has a noteworthy performance. Don’t pass this one up from your collection! (Death8699)

This album is totally brutal. The vocals especially! The guitar riffs shred too. Really technical playing and unique. The whole album is remarkable. It’s my first introduction to Sinister I bought the album after hearing it. Totally blown away upon first listen to. These guys have quite a discography. And most of their press is positive. Not everything, just the bulk of it. This one is totally mind-blowing. And it’s hard to keep up with the technical riffs. The vocals slay and go along well with the music.

I think it’s safe to say that I enjoyed the music over the vocals, but overall, it’s a phenomenal album. The amount of effort they have with the guitars/riffs. Really fast tempos. And the vocals are just vintage Sinister. I’m curious as to what their other albums are like. I’m willing to check out more releases. Once I get my new boombox I’m going to blare this. I already bought the CD. What a gem of a release. These guys define what good death metal should sound like!

In some portions, the vocals are redefining what brutal is what’s it should sound like! The songs are on average of five minutes approximately. The riffs vary a lot of fast guitars but some laid back though not that many. A lot of tremolo picking and some songs it just doesn’t let up! Good sound quality too in the production and overall sound. They’ve tackled this one immensely. If you buy the CD, it’s doing the band justice. Even though this is a 2006 release (but reissued in a super jewel box edition in 2022), it’s still filled with vigor.

There aren’t a lot of lead guitar work though which I don’t mind because if the solos are sub-par, it ruins the rhythms. So I’m glad that they took this route and performed mostly rhythm guitar. Their leads were just a few. So the rating scale is up there due to this and they deserved what they put out here with the music and vocals. I’m glad that the sound quality was top notch. And the mixing went well entirely. These guys kick some serious butt! (Death8699)

Definitely a strong release by the band, in effect, a boon for the band. Great riffs and the vocal aspect is impeccable. These guys show variations in the genre which makes them quite unique. The vocals compliment the music wholeheartedly. And the mixing/production quality is strong. They’re quite diverse on here. Different styles of vocals throughout. And the riffs are ever-changing. They just seem to fluctuate tremendously.

The variation in tempos and riffs are amazing. They seem to buckle down and get this variation genre wholeheartedly. The drums are hyper vigilant as well. A lot of double bass and furious tempos.

I thought that they did well on the lead guitar aspect as well. Some bands don’t hack it with leads but they seem to hit-home with them. The variants in styles and riffs make this a diverse release. It’s never boring they’re bringing forth music that’s like no other. I love how they’re able to get that sense of fluctuation.

Mind you, this is the first time ever hearing this band. I was quite impressed with how they constructed their music. It’s quite unique and played with vigor. Some odd song titles but the music dominates.

Their guitars seem to resonate with the listener. They’re pretty much all over the place and technical. Everything seemed to be on-point with the music. Totally their own style. I suppose that it’s a known that their style of music shows various genres not just one or two. That’s probably why their genre is listed as “various.” A pure abomination on this one, they hit home with their concepts. It’s totally enjoyable to the musical listener. Follow these guy’s riffs and you’ll be amazed how much the genres they wedge into one of many different ones throughout the release. I’d be a little confused about the song titles but that’s just how they decided to put them together. A band that totally needs more recognition because they deserve it and want them to hang around the metal musical community for a long while. Get this one and you’ll be amazed. A pure abomination! I feel like this album was treated rather poorly among critics yet some actually had some decent ratings. Where 'Whisper Supremacy' left off this one was the other half of it (to me). It was only another 30+ minutes but it raped the eardrums like its predecessor. I really enjoyed it and gave the artist credit by buying the CD. Any little bit helps, right? In this modern age of streaming albums, artists are suffering. 'As Gomorrah Burns' was like blasting beats behind the set and lethal guitar pieces. Songs didn't overlap, they kept the intensity high and a lot of the guitar harmonics were noteworthy. Definitely worth checking out if extreme death metal is to your liking.

The vocals were a little different, mainly they were two (it sounded like) contributors so in that respect a little different then 'Whisper...' But it sure as hell went along nicely to this onslaught of a recording. They didn't let up in intensity. I liked that about the album.

What kept me interested in the album was not just the intensity, but the guitars, the vocals and the overall sound. I thought that the way there were tempo changes often again in retrospect like 'Whisper...' too! The crunch guitars sounded killer. The distortion they used, that is. The drums kept alongside the guitars quite well. These guys built a concept into what is meant by "extreme." To look at this release in a negative fashion is not fair in an overall analysis. Because what you have here is top death metal music in an abhorrent sickness. They just toppled your speakers with noise that was in the vein of other extreme acts such as newer Exhumed, et al.

The pace just never wants to let up on here. Good production quality, too. I especially enjoyed the guitars. I felt like they just took over everything tempos, leads, distortion, and harmonics. One thing that struck me was the difference in the voice category. As discussed previously, both interchanging these low bello growls with screaming kept it more interesting to get into. It was one thing that lacked on 'Whisper...'. Well, to me, that is. I feel like this is one of the top albums in 2023. It has so much substance. It blew me away. Don't just download it, buy it. Show the death metal community that you're still supporting the scene. Those of you that got rid of your CD player, well, I don't know what to tell you then. Just give it a listen to in some form! Vintage In Flames before the fall of them. I’d say that every one of theirs all up until Jesper left and 'Clayman' was the last good IF album in existence. I get that he struggled with Alcoholism and later participated on The Halo Effect with other great musicians on that album. 'The Jester Race' is probably the most profound IF album in existence. I’d say this one, 'Whoracle', 'Colony', and 'Clayman' were their strongest releases. But 'The Jester Race' is the most melodic and original release by the band that took precedence over all their albums.

The guitars took over here and flourished throughout the album. The production wasn’t the best but the release is from 1996. So that’s the reason it’s not 100%. But the music is. All of the songs on here are epic and defined melodic death metal possibly the best sounding melodic release of that era. The vocals are good as well. It’s totally different now that Jesper is out of the band and they changed their genre of music. That’s why long-time followers stopped liking them including me. It just is bland.

All of these songs have guitars at their best. If you try to disprove of them you’ll come up short. The melodies and vocals annihilate. It’s not a hardcore release, it’s mainly just a melodic release that’s dominated the metal community and will forever make history with this one. The rhythms and the leads lead the way to perfection. If you can’t hear that in the music, then you’ve got to be tone deaf. These songs paved the wave towards effective melodic death metal.

Every band has good and bad releases. But this band gave up when 'Siren Charms' was released. Their melodic/groove metal is pathetic. Jesper I think saw the direction the band was going and just opted out of the band. Why else why else would he leave? I don’t see him quitting metal especially playing with other melodic death musicians in The Halo Effect. He’ll always be remembered as a phenomenal musician in IF now transferred to The Halo Effect. But check this one because it’s epic! (Death8699)

This is my introduction to ...And Oceans and I feel like they have a strong melodic death type of vibe. A lot of members belting out sounds so surreal. I cannot believe that I just discovered them. They have so many highlights to their music. The vocals hold screaming exceptionally. And the melodies are amazing. I don't really have any complaints about the album just that it's super intense and epic. They know how to incorporate magical sounds with no sense of letting up! The keyboards are in sync with the rest of the music and the tempos vary in an illustrious fashion. This whole album is tops with me.

One of the better albums of 2023 and it holds a great boon to their discography. There are variations to the songs. So are keyboard related but the most of what shows here is a vehement of a pinnacle sound that can only be ....And Oceans.

This whole album shows brutality with tremolo picking galore with the guitars and that is showing throughout. The vocals are hardcore screaming and intense. There's a lot of hate on here. And they seem to pull it off in their music and melodies. I believe there's 6 member lineup blasting away. This all encompassing gem has to be one of their best to date. Or at lease some of what I've heard. Don't cheap out and stream this, get the CD! You'll thank me for that because ...And Oceans is a top notch band that deserves to hold existence in the metal community! They need more followers!

These guys are among the best in the industry. They hold such an epic sound to them. The music compliments the vocals and the production quality is tops with me. These guys deserve a very good rating to this because it's phenomenal. Own the CD! (Death8699)

Immortal - War Against All

Demonaz has a strong sound to his vocals just liked Abbath did. Very similar. But on here, the riffs are tighter than most Immortal releases. There's a lot of the albums that I like, mostly 'At The Heart of Winter'. That one didn't have a strong production quality though. 'Blizzard Beasts' was a worst production but the riffs were great especially "Mountains of Might." This is another chapter of Immortal since the dispute didn't keep the band disconnected. I like the direction they're going on here. A lot of epic riffs all by Demonaz. This album is less than 40 minutes but it's worth every moment.

'Northern Chaos Gods' was good but I felt like this one is stronger. The riffs tighter and the intensity more so. Always have been a fan of this band and good to know that they're not dead, defunct. I'm not so impressed about what Abbath is doing with his project, but he has some good songs on his three releases so far. He's just got to quit drinking. This band had a little different dynamic when he was with the band. Less technical on the guitars than Demonaz but still there were a lot of great releases with him in the band. Demonaz was notorious for his lyric writing but now he's in the spotlight with the guitar riffs.

This band I hope has a long life following this one. I feel like the music is totally tight and original. Demonaz is a wizard with the riffs. Really creative and surreal in his music and it leaves Abbath in the dust with his technicality.

As long as Demonaz is the new frontman, he'll hopefully continue to write some more great music like he did on here. Really hit home with his riffs and the session musicians did a strong way in accompanying the riffs and vocals. Maybe he'll recruit some official musicians and tour. A lot of us want to see Immortal kicking ass even without Abbath. I know that's possible. This album tells it all! This guy has some great licks and the vocals emulate those of Abbath with a little twist. I do recommend every Immortal fan to listen to this one because it literally slays. On any platform, I bought the CD! Don't miss out on some great music! (Death8699)

Probably the strongest Municipal Waste release that I've heard! It clocks in in under 30 minutes but the music/vocals captivates! I like the guitar the most and well the vocals were anything but annoying. This is a definitely good crossover/thrash band that's put together a great career! I think they did the metal community justice after all these years. Their albums may be short, but they hell of pack a punch, that's for sure. I'm not big on the lyrical concepts, I support their music only. Not what they write about. This one again the songs are short but catchy as all hell! I liked every song on here!

The riffs are way cool and the intensity is high. Definitely a band that you either love or hate though. I say that because it seems to be the case with listeners. I'm new to crossover and I'm liking it a lot! It's a change from death metal, I just need a break from that. The whole band contributed equally on here. They definitely contribute to metal's unique twist here. Everything seemed to fit into place with this release. I like a lot of their albums though. But yeah, this one hits home for sure. They just put it out there to the listener and a lot of people are saying the same thing about this one: it rocks!

The sound quality was good, maybe top notch! Everything on here is mixed really well! I'm glad they had that happen for them where everything seemed to come together on here. I hope that they were definitely proud of this release. They sure as hell amped the intensity! It's a half an hour of ear grueling noise-core! The vocals compliment the music well. I'd say this was likeable the first time around! Really good job on here, the music is the most convincing. And the vocals seemed to keep up that pace here, ABSOLUTELY. They did this band justice with making an everlasting effort to their genres.

I ordered the CD to this album. It was released in 2005 but hey I'm still old school when it comes to LP's. I like to have the physical copy of the album. I'm downsizing my collection, but the classics like this one will stay! If you're streaming, this one is available. Actually, quite a few of theirs is online. I checked out some before I ran into this one. I'm looking at the review scores and have to agree that this one deserves a perfect score wholeheartedly. They put together some great songs. I just wish that the album lasted longer. Oh well, I value the whole 30 minutes of this one! Check it! (Death8699)
