Napalm Death - Time Waits For No Slave

#FOR FANS OF: Grind
It's sad to say that the grindcore days are over. But at least Napalm Death is still making music, even though it's totally different from what they began as. 'Time Waits For No Slave' is a good illustration where they're coming to two genres, death metal and some grind. It's odd because I was so used to the Mick Harris blast beats from the six years that he was with the band. But Danny is an OK replacement. This album is heavy, but the tempo changes are evident and totally there, but the blasting is limited. The production quality is a little raw, but OK. I liked the whole album. I thought that, at least for death metal fans, this is a good one.

The guitars aren't riffing too fast. That intensity is gone, but at least the music sounds good. It's a shame that they lost Jesse. I think he was a big influence on the band, being that he was with Terrorizer in the early days. I guess when Mick left the band, that was the end of the real extreme days. I felt that he was the best grindcore drum in existence. Danny is good, especially on here. It seems as though he's matured behind the set and is more comfortable being alongside this band. It's amazing that they've been around since 1981. I was 5 when they formed! Anyway, it's difficult to pinpoint specific highlights on here, just that some tracks are fast then they completely chill out.

I like the variety on this release, it can get really intense. Their newer stuff is LOUD. Meaning their latest release. This album is one of their longer releases, it clocks in at about 50+ minutes. It's worth listening to, but it just takes some getting used to. If you're expecting Napalm Death of the old, it's sad, but they're not really doing it. This release I'd say in the death metal genre is solid. I actually decided to order the CD. I know that this album is outdated, and they're working on new material. I just thought that I'd write about it anyway. Even if it is an older Napalm Death release.

Saying farewell to Jesse and the departed members of the earlier Napalm. It's a good line-up still, and there literally are no leads on this album. It's just all rhythms, which is why I like the album. Jesse was more solid in the lead department, but Mitch has constructed some pretty good riffs. They're diverse and that's what makes the album interesting to listen to. I know earlier it sounded as though I wanted old ND back, but that just isn't going to happen. What they evolved to is something totally different. A lot of their albums post-Mick are strictly death metal, except 'Utopia Banished'. But that one wasn't very good in my opinion. (Death8699)

Demon Realm - ...of Chaos Damnation and War

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

A me francamente non è piaciuto. (Francesco Scarci)

Kaal Nagini - Refracted Lights of a Blind God

The Bad Luck That Saved You From Worse Luck”. (Francesco Scarci)

Nyctophobic - Insects

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Underhate - Defleshed To Build The Net

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Yattering - Human’s Pain

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Carnival in Coal - Fear Not

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine
#PER CHI AMA: Avantgarde Death/Grind
Skizzati!

Dying Fetus - Purification Through Violence

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine

Morgue - Lowest Depths of Misery

#PER CHI AMA: Death/Grind
Ho passato venticinque anni ad ignorare completamente i francesi Morgue, me ne scuso. E allora meglio far finta di niente, lasciarsi imbrigliare dagli estremismi sonici delle più brevi (sotto i tre minuti) “That Which Does Not Live” e “Hug and a Stab in the Back”o farsi maciullare dal mortifero sound di “Safe in Gods Care”. Terrorizer - Hordes of Zombies

http://www.secret-face.com/
#FOR FANS OF: Death/Grind, Napalm Death
Brutal and fast, this full-length covers it all. With a female guitarist that whales on the riff-writing. She didn't appear on their newer release the 'Caustic Attack' which is unfortunate. The vocals are totally guttural and fit well with the music. They're definitely grind on here with death metal vocals. The riffs are dynamite and spellbinding. The music is what hits home with me. I've found the riffs not only fast, but catchy as well. They set the tone for the whole album. And Pete behind the set is right on target (as usual). They don't call him "Commando" without reason. He's way dynamite on here as well!

The sound quality was top notch on here as well. I'm surprised that they didn't get higher ratings on this one. It's a a lot like older Napalm Death of the 90's. The riffs sound a little like those of Napalm back then before they just turned to noise-core.

The music is what took it away for me. The songs are just fast and ferocious as well as noteworthy! I like the voice mixed with the guitar. They knew what they were doing in an approach to this record. They are without Jesse (RIP 2006) and Oscar who forgot all the lyrics so I've heard. I'm not sure if he does vocals for any metal bands anymore. I don't really have any complaints about this release. I'm just bummed that their status is "On Hold" meaning basically they're done. I'm giving the album a "73" and I said in my previous review of their newer release 'Caustic Attack' the same rating. Both are pretty much equally good.

If you're a fan of death/grind then this album is for you. It has all the elements and characteristics of what a death/grind release is supposed to sound like. And not discounting female guitarists she was really good and tight. Wish that she played on their follow-up! (Death8699)

Autopsy - Severed Survival

#FOR FANS OF: Death/Grind
This release is the ultimate in death metal history! What's not to like on here?! The guitars, drums, vocals and sound quality are top notch for a 1989 release. No other album that they've done reaches to this standard in death metal. Chris is KING on vocals and drums. You don't find many drummer/vocalists in metal. Mick Harris did a little of it in Napalm Death but I haven't heard any metal guy that does both simultaneously. Chris pulls it off on stage as well. Saw Autopsy last year and wow they played till 1 o'clock in the morning! This album tops their latest 'Morbidity Triumphant'. I felt that it wasn't as good enough of an effort as their debut here.

Chris played on the first Death LP and he was good there as well. Another thing that's good about Autopsy is you can hear the bass guitar. It's prevalent on here throughout. Not into the writings but the music on here is totally original and intense. Some people say that they're the best death metal band ever. I don't agree, but this one is hard to top. It's just so underground and the riffs are top notch. I love the vibe of this it's totally evil and death defying. They've had a good career in metal and they're still going strong! The leads on here are crazy and well executed. A good boon to this release. Top notch lineup!

The production quality here is definitely giving this debut quite a specialty in the death metal genre. They knew what direction they were going with this and stuck to it. Some slow riffs, some faster and wholly uncompromising!

The vocals by Chris were excellent. What a solid effort. He put his heart and soul into this. Some of my favorite songs include "Charred Remains", "Ridden With Disease", and the title track. Take a listen! (Death8699)

Terrorizer - Caustic Attack

#FOR FANS OF: Grind/Death
They've got some pretty good riffs here, though I like 'Hordes of Zombies' more. This is still a good release! I've enjoyed the whole of it. The death metal/grindcore mix. The music has some catchy songs. The guitars are brutal but catchy. I enjoyed this whole release. It's too bad Jesse isn't around anymore (RIP 2006), they would've probably sounded even better. 'World Downfall' was a monument in the death/grind beginnings. Their last album featured a female guitar player who smoked. This time around a little different lineup but still right on target. The songs are brutal and the vocals (no more Oscar) are right alongside the music. This release clocks in at around 43 minutes.

I'm not much with the lyrical concepts but the songwriting (guitar, bass and drums) are magnificent. They keep up the pace the whole way through. No surprise with Pete behind the set he's trained in this!

I like how Lee smokes on here. Not many lead guitar parts just tremolo picking galore on the rhythm bits. These songs just hit home with me. The vocals sound like traditional death metal voice as it should sound. There are no let up really with the speed. Takes an awful lot of stamina to keep at this pace that they have. It's too bad the band is "On Hold" right now because they've put together some great albums in their career in the music industry. I'll still remain a fan for always. They've put together some really intriguing guitar parts and the drums are solid. I'm all for this one, though I've given it a "73" rating because the riffs could've been a bit better.

Production quality was top notch all the music was audible. The songs I mean all of them were catchy. They've shown the metal community that death/grind is still alive! And no one can kill the genre(s). I'm all for getting this one on CD which I did.

Some songs that I want to refer you to are "Conflict and Despair", "The Downtrodden", and "Sharp Knives." I like this whole album, but those are some highlights and a little bit better compositions with an added kick to them. Enjoy! (Death8699)

Cadaveric Incubator - Nightmare Necropolis

http://www.secret-face.com/

#FOR FANS OF: Death Old School
This is some brutal music that features two genres into one. Death metal mixed with grindcore. One thing that really lagged on this release was the sound quality. But the music is still audible though trying to make out the riffs to each song becomes quite difficult. The leads on the other hand were poetic in the sense of their vibe whizzing through the fretboard. I heard some of their previous LP and didn't like it at all. This is a step-up in quality whereas I failed their predecessor. The music on here is quality, but the extent of the production is where it wanes. Sounds like they tune pretty low on the guitar and have an old-school vibe to the songs.

The thickness on the guitars is what makes it heavy as all hell and the vocals are well along the guitar riffs. All eight songs are just striking and HEAVY. Not much into the lyrical content, but the music and vocals I hold onto the most!

A few songs to take note of are "Blood Lust" and "Through The Flesh." They're all pretty well composed. Definitely a step up from their previous (as I previously discussed). This kind of reminds me of old Carcass via the 'Symphonies of Sickness' era. That's what it sounds much alike to. I'm sure old Carcass is amongst their favorites. I'm not saying that they're duplicating Carcass's earlier work, but it's a striking resemblance of it. Carcass nowadays is much more polished and melodic, nothing like the old except the tuning of the guitars. But they're both probably in 70 or 70-flat. The chunkiness is what does it for me.

Thirty minutes of brutal music as I capped off in the beginning to what this is like. So don't expect anything melodic just all destroying your speakers. I'd give this a higher rating if the production was better. But it is what it is. Old Carcass revisited into the Finnish based Cadaveric Incubator! Be sure to check it out! It's worth checking out if you are into extreme metal! (Death8699)

My Minds Mine - Scenes of the Compleate Annihilation of This Planet

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine
#PER CHI AMA: Grindcore
Vengono dall’Olanda e all'epoca avevano già un album e svariati 7" all'attivo. In ogni momento. Violenti.
