Nunslaughter - Angelic Dread

#FOR FANS OF: Death/Thrash
Killer death metal, though the songs are short. I didn't mind that, they reined with fury! Catchy riffs and tolerable vocals, there's no going wrong with this band! The vocals go well with the music! Best Nunslaughter I've heard from them. Excruciatingly immense death metal galore! Check out one of their lengthier songs called "Looking Into The Abyss."

The music is thrash/death metal, more thrash in the guitars and a tinge of death metal with the vocals. But I know they're considered to be solely a death metal band. The vocals reflect Jeff Walker via Carcass. Same screaming sound if you didn't notice, but it seems to be true to that!

Riffs sound crunchy and catchy. There isn't a Nunslaughter album I've heard that tops this one. And it's good they're re-establishing a great fan base. They need it and their music is unique.

The production quality on here is superb! I enjoyed how they weaved everything into place in terms of instruments/voice. The aggression is totally there, and wouldn't want to change anything on this release. They diversify, they're not aggression totally, but the guitars are HEAVY! I think that they down-tune the guitars to reach that thickness sound. What a great band, they're wholly underrated! I ordered their CD from Hells Headbangers because I thought it one album that I couldn't pass up! The music took over and I loved the vocal department. This band is way unique and uncompromising! Be sure to take a listen to the song I mentioned and see if it's up to your death metal pallet! (Death8699)

Incantation - Blasphemy

BACK IN TIME: recensione gentilmente concessa da Nihil Zine
Diabolici.

Nunslaughter - Red is the Color of Ripping Death

#FOR FANS OF: Death Old School
Pretty cool Pittsburgh/Cleveland, Ohio based death metal. I was more than happy with this CD, my first one I owned of theirs. The music is what I appreciated the most and the vocals are atypical. They fluctuate which is a good thing that you don't get with standard death metal vocals. It's something to appreciate when artists are of a little variety based rather than the burly voices that you get from bands. I thought that the musical element was quite good as well. They make their riffs varying in intensity. And this one is I'd say a "screamer." Various degrees of fluctuation. While they're to me not good as an "70" rating, this album sure is good despite.

I thought that this was a pretty atypical death metal album that has a lot of highs and not so many lows. They vocals were a pinnacle and the guitars just took over and dominated. They went alongside well with the vocals.

This band kills it live and the studio recording of this one was top-notch. They were on top of their game on this one and there wasn't a time on here in the whole 35 minutes that was uninteresting or not entertaining. They slabbed their death metal in such a way that it was way happening and in no way "boring." Fluctuations in tempos, heavy down picked guitar riffs and an astounding production quality for Hells.

There's more and more bands signing on Hells Headbangers that are super underground that put forth way intriguing metal albums. They just have a way of making these death metal albums especially here on Nunslaughter that has been a total devastation. Really great production sound that did the band justice. It's helping the underground scene grow popularity and helping them get recognized. Tons of bands now on Hells kicking ass because of the label and mixing quality with a minimum amounts of flaws. Keep note on this band and other bands on this label to get justice where it needs to be! (Death8699)

Druid Lord - Grotesque Offerings

#PER CHI AMA: Death/Doom
Definitely death/doom of a vibe throughout. They're a killer boon to the metal industry offering something quite unique. I really like how the guitars are with such low distortion alongside eerie tones on top of the low burly licks. They don't speed up too often in the songs. They're mostly just slow thick songs with vocals that are also burly. It all goes with this epic vibe Druid Lord has potentiated. I am totally digging it because there's not a lot of bands that choose these two genres all into one. The sound quality was good as well. This is like something that comes out of a horror movie. It's creepy in a way.

The album is about an hour long and they show the listener some dark and spooky sounds all along the way. These guys don't fool around in terms of the doom that they portray throughout. I wouldn't even say this is death metal that it's more doom metal than anything else.

The guitars are the most noteworthy elements along with the vocals. These tempos don't seem to get fast at all throughout. They are death like and totally underground. I liked the leads too! There were some elements of faster tempos but most of this album is doom metal kind of like in the vibe of older Draconian. But the guitars are thick and chunky. They don't fluctuate throughout they keep from going too fast. The vocals are low and at some instances shriek like. I'd have to say that this whole release was definitely fulfilling. And they keep you in the know with doom metal variability.

The guitars throughout were slow and depressing. I think that there's only a select few instances where they play fast. This is just so down of an album you cannot listen to it if you're in a depressive state. It's totally awesome but the whole thing just puts you in a frail state. I think however that I like this album more than their newer release because it carries with it the utmost sense of morbidity and misery. The guitars are continuing to sound low throughout the album and the riffs are slow for most of the songs. I think the leads are quality. I would just characterize this band as a doom metal band because the death metal portion isn't too prevalent. Be sure to check this out! (Death8699)

Druid Lord - Relics of the Death

#FOR FANS OF: Death/Doom
Totally brutal and intriguing at the same time! I love their death/doom genre(s). The music is slow, but it's catchy and admirable. I loved this whole album. I thought that they had everything covered on here. The music first and foremost and the vocals are SICK. They fit well with the gloomy guitar riffs. The leads are solid as well. Overall, a monument of an album. The tempos are just moderate but the musical aspect is what's to admire on here. They totally kick ass! They know exactly what they're doing in the musicianship of the band. They seem to have it all down. The songwriting, vocals, guitar and production.

I liked the fact that not only were depressing type of metal to play, but even some of the synthesizers played a part in the grim compositions. They had some reverb to the guitars and the guttural vocals leads the way to this ear throbbing death/doom. The tempos are like that of say Draconian but slower and all death metal vocals. The music is like no other. They use a lot of tremolo picking but the drums double bass kicking goes well with those riffs. There were even some acoustic guitar riffs but not for entire songs. They were mainly intros to the what's to be brutal/doom types of songs.

The sound quality was rather good and I have no complaints in that respect as well. They did the music justice. I would say that there's many highlights to this album. Most the music and vocals. I'm not sure about the lyrical concepts but that doesn't really matter. I've found this band to be at the utmost of intriguing music. There are two guitars that play somewhat of harmonies but it doesn't take away from the brutality of the songs. These guys are nothing overly special, they just know how to write good songs. I mean, I respect this band, but I feel like they could've done better with some of the riffs.

There's many good songs and songs that you can't go wrong with. Here's some of them: "Mangled as the Hideous Feed", "Immolated Into Ashes", and "Monarch Macabre." I think all of these songs are catchy and to the point. There's nothing I would change on here because all of the tracks are worth mentioning. These guys have been around for over a decade and it seems like you can't go wrong with any of their releases. They are just on top of their game musically. Like I said, they just know how to piece together good underground music. A release in 2022 that you shouldn't overlook! (Death8699)

Church of Disgust - Weakest is the Flesh

#FOR FANS OF: Death Old School
Best way to describe this release is that it's HEAVY and BRUTAL death metal. The first hearing this album and I was impressed. However, I wasn't immediately on the assumption that this deserved an "75" rating. But upon repeated listens to, the more I thought higher and higher of. These guys aren't entirely new to the scene, they have some full length LP's. Based in Texas and on Hell's Headbangers Records they've really stepped up a performance. The guitars and vocals seemed to grow on me. They just downright heavy. It's kind of like Shed The Skin's latest 'Thaumogensis' which is another band on Hell's Headbangers. That label attracts some brutal stuff, but good!

The guitars are noteworthy and catchy. Alongside the vocals, they're really equipped to accompany the music. There was small bits of keyboards too, but not while the guitars were playing. Something unique to have on a death metal record. Reminds me of the second Malevolent Creation release 'Retribution'. The vocals are just chunks of slab hoarse as all hell.

The sound quality was good, there were no instruments drowned out by anything. Really well produced. My favorite parts are the chunky guitars mixed with the voice. Overall, a great effort. I'm not too interested in their older work, I just hope that they'll continue to progress musically. With this gem being as it is, I'm hopeful they'll keep up with momentum. The songs are really fast they're moderate to slow tempos and the lead portions (guitar) are pretty technical. There aren't a heck of a lot of leads, they just are featured on a few songs. Their musical maturity is way there and they show that they're definitely a solid band.

This clocks in about 40 minutes which I wish would've been longer but they made their mark in death metal history with this monument. There's nothing else that I would change about this except the duration. However, I feel that they made their contribution to the extreme metal community. And that they have! Don't wait any longer, this is where it's at in a landmark release on this label. Do what you can to find more out about it! (Death8699)

Cadaveric Incubator - Nightmare Necropolis

http://www.secret-face.com/

#FOR FANS OF: Death Old School
This is some brutal music that features two genres into one. Death metal mixed with grindcore. One thing that really lagged on this release was the sound quality. But the music is still audible though trying to make out the riffs to each song becomes quite difficult. The leads on the other hand were poetic in the sense of their vibe whizzing through the fretboard. I heard some of their previous LP and didn't like it at all. This is a step-up in quality whereas I failed their predecessor. The music on here is quality, but the extent of the production is where it wanes. Sounds like they tune pretty low on the guitar and have an old-school vibe to the songs.

The thickness on the guitars is what makes it heavy as all hell and the vocals are well along the guitar riffs. All eight songs are just striking and HEAVY. Not much into the lyrical content, but the music and vocals I hold onto the most!

A few songs to take note of are "Blood Lust" and "Through The Flesh." They're all pretty well composed. Definitely a step up from their previous (as I previously discussed). This kind of reminds me of old Carcass via the 'Symphonies of Sickness' era. That's what it sounds much alike to. I'm sure old Carcass is amongst their favorites. I'm not saying that they're duplicating Carcass's earlier work, but it's a striking resemblance of it. Carcass nowadays is much more polished and melodic, nothing like the old except the tuning of the guitars. But they're both probably in 70 or 70-flat. The chunkiness is what does it for me.

Thirty minutes of brutal music as I capped off in the beginning to what this is like. So don't expect anything melodic just all destroying your speakers. I'd give this a higher rating if the production was better. But it is what it is. Old Carcass revisited into the Finnish based Cadaveric Incubator! Be sure to check it out! It's worth checking out if you are into extreme metal! (Death8699)

Perdition Temple - Merciless Upheaval

#FOR FANS OF: Brutal Death Metal
Who can hear this and not want to write a bit about it? It has balls-out intensity. Gene from Angelcorpse that led the way for that band. He smokes on here with a somewhat raw production sound but good death/black metal. I've found the whole album to be interesting in terms of the sound and Gene's vocals slay! This is sort of a modern Angelcorpse if there was one. I don't hear any mistakes or forced vocals. Everything seems to be in tandem with everything else. These guys have some balls-out intensity. And the lead guitar is wicked as is, no need to change that as well.

It's weird though that it's four original songs and four cover songs. They were all well played out. The vocals go well with the guitar. These guys seem to progress on each succeeding release. And the sound is wicked, I love this type of production. It has you keyed into every song. Fast and furious yet instances of mild playing, but not much. They are fierce with these songs and impeccable covers. I especially like "Blood On My Hands" from Morbid Angel's 'Covenant' album. It was immaculate! Sounded just like the original. Their own songs too sound really amazing. Sucks that this album is only 33+ minutes.

Like I said about the sound quality, it's great! The production is justifiable. They don't fall short of the game of immaculate musicianship. These guys have stayed around and Gene post Angelcorpse. From my understanding, these guys are in multiple bands. Gene is pretty cool as a person and seems to respect his fans the way his fans respect the band. He returns messages not that they're musicians with much idle time but he reached out which was surprising. This raises my respect for the band. And I do my best to make sure that these underground bands get the press that they so deserve.

I bought this album on CD from Hells Headbangers. But you can find it streaming. What an onslaught! These guys know what the hell their doing and it shows on the outcome of this LP. They really sound great but not overly polished. A release to chalk up another in the Perdition Temple discography. But they need a bigger fan-base. I'm sure death/black or just metal fans can appreciate this. The guitars and vocals are my favorite parts of the album. They just annihilated this time around, yet again! I really hope that they have a long life to this band. They have so much talent and resilience. Check them out! (Death8699)

Shed The Skin - Thaumogenesis

#FOR FANS OF: Death Old School
Another brutal one! But this is way tighter and lots of great riffs! The vocals are about the same as the predecessor. But it's stronger hence then 80% score. Even the band was really proud of this release. The quality of the songs were to a greater caliber than any of their existing LP's. It'll be great when I actually get this on CD! These guys cover it all with the tempos it's heavy but slower then faster. They seem to maintain slower riffs/tempos throughout. Sounds like they tune the guitars low. They are totally underground on their compositions. The leads are well done on here too!

This album is under an hour in length but that is how much brutality they are able to put forth through your speakers. Everything about this album deserves to be mentioned because Kyle and crew just slayed! Actually am getting their CD though it's only available on their record label Hells Headbangers Records. I thought that the compositions were way in line with their concept for this release. They themselves felt that the band as a whole went above and beyond with this release. I heard the change from 'The Forbidden Arts' to this one. It's a whole lot stronger they succeeded in their goal of what they wanted to come out with this!

The sound quality to the album is excellent. I feel like everything was superb! They really did great on this LP. I think the biggest thing is making the guitar riffs much catchier than their last, the music was fresh and original. I listened to this album repeatedly and not once did I get sick of it. It's pretty brutal, but the music in some cases are melodic bit with a load of chunk riffs but overall superb musicianship. This band continues to get better on each succeeding release. It's all that can be expected of a band not fall backwards like say Deicide without the Hoffman brothers in the band. This is Kyle's band and he's consistent.

I ordered this CD as mentioned previously on Hells Headbangers. Hopefully, there's quite a bit of a future for this band. I think as long as their music is being explored, then they'll keep putting out LP's. I believe that this is their strongest album to date. There's songs that are consistent and memorable. I thought that just hearing it on the digital was good to get the essence of the release just getting a physical copy will be fantastic! If you are unaware of this band's albums, they're available on digital try this album and 'The Forbidden Arts' and listen for yourself if it's your cup of tea. This release is fantastic! Shed The Skin - The Forbidden Arts

#FOR FANS OF: Death Metal
Definitely dark and brutal death metal this is my first venturing to immerse myself into Shed The Skin and their vibe. The music and vocals are very dismal and desolate. I thought that they deserve a "72" rating since the rhythms and vocals do well on here, reminds me a little of later Deicide recordings. In that respect, they sound good. It's one of those albums that you don't want to turn off especially if you're in a chronic death metal type of mood! It's been going in streaks as to when I'm listening to this whole release, I'd have to say it's not very fast tempos it's mainly mild tempos and just balls out HEAVY.

I like the originality in the songwriting and the riffs are good the whole way though. Every song has its own unique structure and the music doesn't really repeat itself. The consistency of fresh licks shine on this one! They are like I said: HEAVY! I told mind that especially since they've yes have got their influences but they've created some pretty unique and powerful compositions. It's something that's lacking in originality within the vein of death metal wholeheartedly. Things are just repetitive in the vein of death metal nowadays. Recycled riffs I mean and sounds. On here, there's just is this unique vibe!

The sound quality was superb. These guys just tear it up, they are more in key with slower tempos, but they do all sorts really. Mostly slower or medium-paced outputs. The quality again suffice to say here did the album justice. They put some good music here. A bit of melodic songs too. So in essence, they've been consistent but they do have their ways into choruses and main riffs that are thick and the vocals go right alongside the music rather well! They didn't lag in any aspect. Wish they had a higher rating in the other review. Obviously didn't think high enough of this recording to give it a 72%.

I'm glad for Spotify getting this streaming and I later bought the CD. I'm totally satisfied with it otherwise I'd care less about this album. It struck me the more I listened to this and heard the value of it. I like the fact that they were straightforward in this LP they tackled many aspects of death metal in this whole composition. It has varying spurts energy-wise. It's charged with slow, medium, and fast riffing. I did definitely liked the sound quality as well. It was good mixing and am awesome recording. I encourage fans of death metal or melodic death metal to check out 'The Forbidden Arts'! (Death8699)

Crucified Mortals - Psalms of the Dead Choir

#FOR FANS OF: Thrash/Death
This band reminds me a lot of older Metallica, but not as raw. The lead guitar is a real treat too, really well played. The only thing that really is off is the production quality. I would've given the album a much higher rating if it would've sound-wise have been better. But the music is great, that's what hits home with me. The guitars are awesome the chunkiness of the main riffs dominates. And the vocals are tolerable, kind of a hoarse throat to it. Everything seems to fit into place with the songwriting. I'm surprised that this album has no so many reviews. They're still active too the band is I'm not sure why no one has written about this.

Instead of leads that end up nowhere in the music, here they seem to fit in well. They're pretty technical. And the main guitars are HEAVY. But they're catchy, too. I really liked these rhythms they pretty much were fit in good with the vocals. Some of the riffs sound a lot like Metallica (as I've said) but they have their own twist to them. Some even a groove feel. But still thick and heavy. I really like the vocals, too. So in effect, these guys know how to write some good music. If they would've done a better production sound, these guys would have higher rating from me. But maybe that's what they wanted in this recording.

A lot of thrash metal bands have leads that really go nowhere. But this band seems to fit them well with the music. Bands like Warbringer, Fusion Bomb, et al have strong rhythms but aren't as apt in the leads for thrash metal music. This here isn't too sloppy, in fact, it's very well played out. These other bands have a good feel to their music they just need better lead guitar work. This is what makes or breaks an album. To me, if the leads are sloppy, they put a damper on the main guitars. Crucified Mortals hits home with their leads on this one. They're not super technical but they are played with precision.

Get this CD from Hell's Headbangers because I don't think it's offered on Amazon, I'm not entirely certain. If you get the digital files, do it on Bandcamp if they have this one featured there. It still sounds better to me on CD. Plus you're supporting music not letting CD's die out. Of course, there's going to be a time when CD's will still be in high demand because record stores are few and far between. I would have to say that I'm glad I bought this album without a priori knowledge of the band at all! Check this band out if you're into thrash metal. It's worth it, ever minute you'll savor! Perdition Temple - Sacraments of Descension

http://www.secret-face.com/
#FOR FANS OF: Death Metal
This one is reminiscent of their debut, with solid rhythms, production quality, vocals and mixing. The actual leads aren't as top notch as they were on the debut, but the rhythms overshadow that. So this is OK, but it's not going to be as good of a rating on here. The riffs are wholly original and in your face FAST! There isn't a song on here that isn't worthy of some sort of praise, just wish they left out the solos. Gene doesn't seem to be hacking it out 10 years later upon virtue of their first release. But he still came up with sick rhythm guitar-work. That I can respect absolutely. And catchy, too!

The vocals go along well with the music and these riffs are fresh. It's chapter 2 in their book not sure what their previous album was about. They were a 5-piece and was nothing at all like the first and this release. I actually chose not to review that one I'll just leave it alone. Every song on here is good rhythm/vocal wise. The ton of the guitars and the originality of the riffs, PERFECTION, indeed! The music is what stole it for me. Totally awesome riffs! It took a couple of rounds hearing this album before it really sunk in at hit home with me. I enjoyed this album immensely. Truly!

There's nothing bad to say about this release except (as previously mentioned) the lead guitar work. It just got a little sloppy. The rhythms definitely made up for it. Total originality in the respect! It's totally reminiscent of the first album. The tempos and guitar work as well as the vocals bring the listener back to the days where their debut hit home. I would venture to say that this is their 2nd best release to date. It's worth the wait (5 years) because it totally crushes. The music is what stole it for me and the overall sound was definitely there, too. I didn't miss out on anything here.

I would encourage you to take a listen on YouTube this album because it sounds like the first one just a little more polished in the rhythm department. From start to finish the intensity is really high! Fast, brutal, unrelenting and chaotic! They don't miss a beat here! I was taken aback by this band releasing one that sounded like the debut and this one is it! A good progression from their last. Let's just hope next time the leads are a little better. But the songwriting was immensely insurmountable. I few listens to and I don't doubt that you'll be blown away by this blackened death metal devastation! Check it out! (Death8699)

Cianide - Unhumanized

#FOR FANS OF: Death Metal
This is a pretty brutal EP, not to say that all of their LP's aren't because they are, just this one due to the production as well as access to the equipment that's desirable for the recording, this one is one monumental piece. The riffs are heavy and thick, the tempos slow (for the most part). And the vocals are hoarse. But anyway, getting to the "nitty-gritty" of the EP, you can say that it's a good use of 25+ minutes of your time, for death metal fans, that is.

As well as Chicago based metal fans, first and foremost. Each song is roughly five minutes in length. Every single one on here just kicks ass. For those guitarists out there, take note of this one. The songs aren't filled with an overabundance of tremolo picking, but a lot of palm muting and chunky chords. The riffs are pretty catchy and innovative. It's a good progression here, that is from their last LP was out. I believe that was 'Gods of Death' way back in 2011. They're a bit aged now, but still doing a good job of making awesome music, brutal as I mentioned. The production quality was probably one of their better ones and the vocals are a little bit lower in pitch. Well thought out EP and unique. This one is tricky to catch on CD.

You can get a listen to this on YouTube for an evaluation first. I think that one thing that mainly drew me in to this particular EP is the fact that it's very catchy. The riffs are unique and intriguing to listen to, their sound is still there, mainly their style. The vocals are a little deeper but still you can tell it's them doing the composing and singing. This is one EP that you cannot get sick of, at least for me. I've heard it countless times and hear something new every time I hear it. Really invigorating death metal. If you find death metal to be invigorating that is to say. Definitely has the anger and aggression in the music.

Support Cianide by getting a physical copy to this CD. It's really worth it. If you wish to stick to YouTube and listen to it on there, fine. But I'm saying to support the music AND the band by getting the CD. I'm a little old school about that but it's for a good cause. It really is, it's to keep the Cianide faith alive. And maybe if there is that undying support from the fans, the band will see it to have more LP's to come out, even though they're veterans at this point. But still, it's an EP that's one of the better ones from all I've heard in 2019. It may take a little time, to get into, but once you keep playing it, you'll keep playing it! (Death8699)

Rotting Christ/Varathron - Duality of the Unholy Existence

Hail to Hellenic sound. (Francesco Scarci)
