Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness

FOR FANS OF: Black Metal
I hear no flaws on this entire album. They were sticking with the blackened metal in the black metal genre. The main this is the thrash-filled guitars with the dark atmosphere. Just taking note of this and it being 20 years old I'm that behind! Though I'm not far behind in the Immortal discography except for this one. Sucks that their status now is "disputed" though I did like 'Northern Chaos Gods'. Maybe their status will change but Abbath is gone doing his own work in his project. Curious to hear what his follow-up from 'Outstrider' will be. The groundwork was laid with Immortal now he's done with this band.

All the tracks were good that crunch tone on the guitars is so Immortal-esque. That was probably date back to 'Blizzard Beasts'. But this production was quite good and everyone did a great job with this one. Totally "them" and this is when Iscariah was on bass. He didn't last too long with the band but he did well on the bass duties. Tempos by Abbath were varied but nevertheless solid! He's who made Immortal who they are Demonaz on 'Northern Chaos Gods' made a good effort though. I still think that 'At the Heart of Winter' is one of their tops despite some flaws in the guitars and production. The riffs were great!

On here, since the production was awesome it made the music way electric and more than tolerable. If Immortal never lifts their status, 'Northern Chaos Gods' is a good good-bye from the band to fans. I don't want to close the door yet, but I'm going to seemingly have to. Abbath has moved on with no real intentions of getting back together with the band. He had a good career with them and on here the riffs are amazing that thereof. And the vocals in a realm of their own. Tough album here to duplicate and they've yet to do so. The only things that I'd change are some of the lead guitar work. The rhythms, sure are solid. Just the leads.

From overlooking this one for 20 years, I'm glad that it's a part of my collection. I'm sure Immortal fans HAVE NOT overlooked this one. It's filled with all sorts of good songwriting. And a perfect score it was well deserved of. All the way, good music. These guys in their day tore it up. 'All Shall Fall' and 'Damned In Black' a few others that were good besides my favorite which I mentioned that being 'At the Heart of Winter'. Just expect top notch playing on here with variety as such it portrayed as well. Don't wait any longer if you have this album is one that is a great in its own! (Death8699)
