Withering Soul - Adverse Portrait

#FOR FANS OF: Symph Black/Thrash
What an abomination of melodic black metal! Very much amongst the influence of bands like Darkthrone, Dark Fortress and Naglfar. But they have their own tweak/style amongst their melodic black metal/style. I'd have to say from start to finish this LP slays! It is dynamic in quality holding sheer faith in great riff-writing. This one clocks in at about a little over 40 minutes in length. I'm hoping that their latest will be even longer. I say this because I didn't want this one to end! The music is the highlight and the vocals much like those (some) on Dark Fortress's 'Eidolon'. But for the most time, Chris has his own vibe.

What I noticed at first was the structure of their guitar riffs. A lot of changes in the tempos but nothing overtly fast, but quality is their style ABSOLUTELY! I think that "Hex Illusion" is my favorite track but all of them are quality. The aura is dark and an evil sort of stitch to to it. It goes well with the lyrical concepts. I'd have to saw that altogether this band started in one direction then gripped this melodic black metal style. I think that they should keep to this because their riffs and synthesizers do it justice in keeping to this specific genre. I dig this style anyway, but I don't think enough bands can hack it as well as Withering Soul can!

The production quality is top notch and everything seemed to be all right in the mixing. It did the album a boatload of justice! Without this quality, they wouldn't have sounded as good as they did. I think that altogether the band put forth one helluv a strong full-length! I think that as they progress, they'll only get even better. The guitarwork is sublime and you'll notice right away that it steals the show with just inconceivably top notch music! I support them as the progression gets even better! The music stole it totally! What you'll notice is the darkness of the riffs and the high-quality tremolo picking and takeaway with the leads.

Unfortunately, there was no physical copy of this album. But you can find it on Spotify/Bandcamp. In any event, I think they're definitely worth checking out. If you do like the bands I mentioned as examples, you'll like Withering Soul. They are unique in their own front and they definitely are an underrated band. Maybe their previous wasn't well received, maybe because of a more gothic style of metal rather than on this being melodic black metal. These guys rip and I don't think you'll find anything that disappoints on here. If you are, then you don't appreciate this style! Check them out! (Death8699)
