Desaster - Churches Without Saints

#FOR FANS OF: Black/Thrash
This album packs a big punch! Aside from the overlapping genres, it's an acquired taste. I liked the album immensely! These guys know how to comprise songs that sting but in a good way. The vocals are aggressive. It's like hoarse mixed with a scream at the same time! Well, if that's possible. The tempos are moderate and well composed riffs! Heavy and fast, but catchy. They show some variations in the guitar department (clean tone guitars) segueing into heavy riffs. Not on all songs, but only a select few. The whole album packs a big punch! The music on some songs are slow, but not entirely for the bulk of the release.

The vocals gauge how the guitars are played and go alongside the voice quite well. I enjoyed all portions of the album! Glad it was full of such diversity as well as originality. So yeah, these guys know what they're doing and it shows in the compositions. They sound a touch like Viking metal but not wholeheartedly. Just to a certain extent. They play with a lot of feel and the emotion of anger is rampant! The vibe extenuates that sort of feeling, anger especially. But in any respect, the feel is all their and a lot of well composed riffs. They're pretty king in respect to feel and aggression.

The sound quality is quite good, production-wise very solid. I didn't have a problem with any of the sound on here. The vocals in a certain sense are somewhat overpowering but good. The music and voice was well mixed throughout I didn't have any complaints. They really know what they're doing on here and it comes out in the music. A lot of overt aggression that like I said packs a punch in the brutality of certain riffs and songs. The genres intermix with everything played on here and it's a unique combination of genres they're in! I really liked the feel and simple dynamics.

I bought the CD to this album and I was certain that it was going to be good. Of course you can download this on Spotify and YouTube but I wanted to try a physical copy. I want to support music and the band. I overall thought this album was worth such a high rating because to me it was quite innovative and unique. I don't come across genres of black/thrash metal too often. I'm glad that there's such a genre or category this falls into. Do your part as a promoter of metal and do yourself a favor: purchase the physical CD. It's well worth it! (
